Job Description

The Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences (RFHS) and Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing on January 1, 2027, or on a date mutually agreed upon. The department is seeking an individual with evidence of strong research capabilities in cardiovascular diseases and who is capable of training graduate, undergraduate and medical students as well as postdoctoral and clinical fellows through teaching and mentorship. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent teaching skills and will be amenable to working within a team. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and in accordance with the University of Manitoba Faculty Association collective agreement.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be a member of the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, based at the St. Boniface Hospital Albrechtsen Research Centre (https://www.sbrc.ca/ics/). The new recruit will be expected to develop an innovative and externally funded pre-clinical/translational research program related to cardiovascular disease. Preference will be given to candidates working in the area of women’s cardiovascular health. Candidates complementing or extending our strengths in cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology in one or more of the areas of heart failure, cardiac fibrosis, cardiac regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, circadian biology, and apoptosis will also be considered. This program will allow for broad collaborations with colleagues from both basic biomedical science and clinical departments. The opportunity to do original and innovative research is a significant component of this position with at least 75% protected time for research. Laboratory and office space will be located at the St. Boniface Albrechtsen Research Centre. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to independent and team teaching in the area of cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology to undergraduate, graduate and medical/professional students and perform service on department or faculty committees as assigned.

Additional Information

The successful applicant will have access to all Faculty research platform resources including Central Animal Care and will have access to expertise in transgenic mouse models, adenovirus vector production, molecular and live-cell imaging, genomics, proteomics, lipidomics, flow cytometry, and mass spectroscopy. The Department Office will provide administrative support for undergraduate and graduate teaching/training. Preferred and Required Qualifications

Qualifications

Applicants must have earned a doctorate or equivalent degree in physiology or related areas, with a minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral training. This position will have a significant research component and evidence of a productive publication history in high quality, peer-reviewed journals and ability to secure competitive, extramural research funding are expected. Demonstrated evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative team environment, excellent communication skills, and teaching experience in physiology and related areas are desirable attributes.
