Position Description

The University of Washington (UW) is recruiting for a full-time Assistant Professor (without tenure due to funding) in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Department of Medicine. Patient care efforts will occur primarily within the Center for Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) and Pulmonary and Transplant Consult services at the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC), Montlake and Northwest Campuses, and Harborview Medical Center (HMC).

The successful candidate will conduct funded research focused on pulmonary fibrosis. Clinical work will be a mix of outpatient and inpatient. The clinical work will focus on interstitial lung disease (ILD) and pulmonary and transplant consultation. The successful candidate will engage in teaching, scholarship, or service which is considered integral to this position. Teaching responsibilities will include clinical bedside teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows.

Assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1–June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July–June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The anticipated start date of this position is March 2026 or later.

University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

The base salary range for this position will be $18,000–$22,000 per month ($216,000–$264,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  1. MD/DO degree or foreign equivalent
  2. Board certification or eligibility (or foreign equivalent) in pulmonary and critical care medicine
  3. Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Washington

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
