The Program in Disability Studies and Women and Gender Studies Program at Georgetown University is seeking a full-time, non-tenure-line Assistant Teaching Professor specializing in Feminist Disability Studies. The position is set to begin in August 2026.

Established in 1789, Georgetown University is a leading academic and research institution that offers a unique educational experience that prepares the next generation of global citizens to lead and make a difference in the world. Georgetown's Women and Gender Studies Program was founded in 1981 and has graduated thousands of minors and majors. Georgetown's Disability Studies Program was founded in 2017 and has graduated over 250 minors; the major launched this year.

We are looking for an outstanding teacher committed to innovative and inclusive pedagogy who fosters a rigorous, yet supportive environment for student learning. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses, including core courses such as Introduction to Disability Studies and Intro to Women and Gender Studies, and will provide mentorship and advising to students. We are particularly interested in candidates who utilize humanistic and/or social scientific methods and who can teach, among other things, Feminist Disability Studies; Disability, Law, & Activism; Crip/Queer Studies; Disability & Critical Race Theory.

Responsibilities

  • This is primarily a teaching position with some service responsibilities. The candidate will teach three undergraduate courses per semester, totaling six courses annually.
  • Deliver at least one core course each semester, including Introduction to Disability Studies or Intro to Women and Gender Studies.
  • Develop and teach elective courses based on scholarly expertise.
  • Provide student advising and mentorship, including support of each program's capstones.
  • Engage in service to both programs and to the vibrant intellectual life of the college.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in disability studies, feminist studies/WGS, or a closely related field or JD is required prior to appointment start date. Candidates must show strong promise of excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring and demonstrated commitment to accessible pedagogies. Those with substantive teaching experience are especially encouraged to apply.

The projected base salary range is $59,750.46-$66,389.40. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
