Salary R ange : $ 25,000 - $27,500 per
academic year. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience
and qualifications. This position is Exempt fro m the Fair Labor
Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Summary
This 9-month .5 FTE position is set to begin January 2027. The
assistant teaching professor is expected to teach approximately 12
credit hours of undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses in
nutrition and sports nutrition each academic year (lectures and
labs); mentor undergraduate and graduate students in and outside of
the classroom, engage with partner organizations; participate in
both internal and external professional service activities; and
demonstrate collaborative interests and collegiality in all aspects
of university and community engagement. Candidates with expertise
in the areas of nutrition, exercise science and other affiliated
fields are encouraged to apply. Applicants should possess good
interpersonal and communication skills, including proficiency in
English.
Essential Functions
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are
not limited to:
Teaching & Instruction (80%)
- Develop and deliver high-quality undergraduate and/or
graduate courses in the assigned discipline, using evidence-based
teaching practices to promote student learning and
engagement.
- Design course syllabi, assignments, and assessments aligned
with program learning outcomes and accreditation
standards.
- Facilitate classroom, laboratory, and/or online instruction
using appropriate pedagogical strategies and technology
tools.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work to
support academic success.
- Maintain regular office hours and academic advising for
students to guide course selection, career planning, and academic
progress.
- Integrate experiential learning opportunities (e.g.,
internships, projects, simulations) where appropriate to enhance
applied knowledge.
- Mentor graduate students in capstone projects in nutrition
and/or sports nutrition.
- Continuously update course content to reflect current
research, industry trends, and best practices in the
field.
- Examples of courses that may be taught: HPNU 1050: Personal
Nutrition; HPNU 2050: Nutrition for Health Professionals; HPNU
3330: Sports Nutrition; HPNU 4060: Advanced Sports Nutrition; HPNU
6900: Nutrition Seminar.
Serv ice (20%)
- Participate in departmental, college, and university
committees to support governance, curriculum development, and
strategic initiatives.
- Engage in student recruitment and retention activities,
including tours, outreach events and program promotion.
- Collaborate with colleagues on program assessment and
accreditation processes to ensure compliance and continuous
improvement.
- Contribute to community and professional service through
partnerships, guest lectures, or involvement in relevant
organizations.
- Mentor adjunct faculty or graduate teaching assistants to
maintain instructional quality and consistency.
- Assist in organizing departmental events, seminars, and
workshops that enhance student and faculty engagement.
- Percentages reflect typical workload but may vary by
semester.
- This role emphasizes instructional excellence and student
success, requiring independent judgment in curriculum design and
classroom management.
- Decision-making involves selecting appropriate teaching
methods, resolving student concerns, and contributing to
departmental policy discussions.

Qualifications :
- A Master's Degree in nutrition, human physiology, exercise
science or closely related field is mandatory.
- Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RD/RDN) is
preferred.
- International Olympic Committee Diploma in Sports Nutrition
or Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) is
preferred.
- 1 or more academic terms of teaching experience is
preferred.
