Major Duties
Under the general direction of the Technical Director, the Assistant Technical Director of Electrics (ATD-E) supports production execution through electrics planning, lighting design, technical coordination, and on-deck production activities. The incumbent partners with visiting teams, contributes to scheduling and budgeting, and ensures consistent production quality across performances, events, and facility operations.
- Backstage Operations - Oversees productions in the area of electrics, beginning with the advance preparations and budgeting, meeting and communicating with visiting production and design staff, interpretation of drawings and documentation, pre-hangs, load-ins, performances, load-outs, and all post-performance activities.
- Designing / Quality Control - Designs and maintains lighting plots for standard facility setups and productions. Serves as the house lighting designer (LD) to support presented and rental productions without an LD, and serves as LD for all original/produced works by The Soraya.
- On Deck Supervision / Oversight - Oversees electrics and deck crews and provides oversight of lead technicians.
- Advancing / Planning / Pre-Hangs - Advances productions within the scope of responsibility of the position to include all electrical needs and others for all performances in the Great Hall and/or the Plaza del Sol Performance Hall. Prepares budget forecasts for productions within their scope of supervision and contributes to department financial tracking.
- Staff Onboarding / Training - Oversees and trains a team of electrics staff (Part Time and Temporary staff and lead staff) used to support productions. This includes training teams in standard operating procedures, standard setups, work practices, and maintaining effective workflows and communications. Participates in overall production staff training and facility preparations. This includes ensuring safety and standard operating procedures are followed and that facility documentation is maintained. Participates in trainings and the training of staff on an ongoing basis.

Qualifications
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a job-related field; Master's in Fine Arts preferred.
- Four years of progressively responsible experience working with performing arts organizations operating and providing technical maintenance of theatrical lighting, sound, and video equipment.
- Additional experience in a job-related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required education, on a year-for-year basis.
- Experience using ETC light boards (Eos and Ion) and knowledge of Paradigm and VectorWorks is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of theatrical electrics systems and production workflows, including lighting console programming, networked lighting infrastructure, and interpretation of technical drawings; ability to coordinate all phases of production from advance planning through post-performance activities while ensuring technical accuracy and efficiency.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and team coordination skills, with the ability to guide electrics technicians through complex setups, pre-hangs, and live event execution; capable of resolving equipment and system issues in real time while maintaining clear communication with production staff and adapting to demanding schedules, including nights and weekends.
- Advanced knowledge of lighting design principles and plotting techniques, with the ability to create and adapt lighting plots for diverse productions while ensuring consistency in quality, functionality, and alignment with artistic intent across varying performance environments.
- Strong communication and planning skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with visiting production teams to develop cost estimates, technical plans, and design solutions that support production goals while maintaining high standards of quality and operational feasibility.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

- The anticipated HIRING RATE is $ 4626 - $ 6103 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $ 4626 - $ 6739 per month.
- HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends.
- This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
- The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
