Assistant Veterinarian
Position Overview
The University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus invites applications for the Continuing Appointment-Track position of Assistant Veterinarian. This position is located at the University of Guelph’s Ridgetown Campus, located in the municipality of Chatham-Kent, 200km southwest of the University’s main campus. The anticipated start date for this position is March 1, 2026.
Reporting to the Director of the Ridgetown Campus, the Assistant Veterinarian is responsible for overseeing the health and care of the Veterinary Technology program's equine, and small colony animals (dogs, cats, rabbits, rats and birds). While the Veterinary Technology program has a higher focus on companion animals, knowledge of livestock, equine, laboratory, and exotic animals is encouraged. The Assistant Veterinarian will provide academic oversight to and teach in the academic programs at the Ridgetown Campus, particularly in the Veterinary Technology diploma program but may also teach in the Agriculture and Equine Care and Management diploma programs. The remaining effort is spent on professional development and service to the University, profession, and community.
Position Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent veterinary professional degree and must be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the province of Ontario.
- Must be in good standing with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (or College of Veterinary Professionals of Ontario once in effect).
- Proven expertise in clinical, surgical, laboratory and companion animal health care procedures in veterinary practice.
- Potential to excel in teaching at the diploma level in a variety of veterinary technology, agriculture and equine disciplines.
- Ability to incorporate relevant and practical experience into teaching methods.
- Ability to work collegially with multidisciplinary teams including Program Coordinators, Veterinary Technicians/Technologists, Animal Care Staff and those with other training and expertise to support animal welfare and program objectives.
- Preference may be given to candidates with experience in shelter health management, livestock health management (dairy, beef, swine, sheep and poultry) and equine health management.
Salary is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications.
