Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
Job Summary
The Assistant Vice Provost (AVP) for Academic Affairs is a 12-month tenured professor position reporting to the Provost who provides strategic vision and institutional leadership to develop and implement academic policies, programs, services, and strategies related to all aspects of Academic Affairs. Through inclusive, innovative leadership, the AVP works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and Academic Affairs administrators to positively impact academic programs; coordinate accreditation; liaise with the University System of Georgia System Office; and advance large-scale, institutional initiatives.

Responsibilities
In coordination with the Provost, the AVP provides institutional-level leadership and oversight for academic programs and operations. Specific duties include:
- Work closely with the Provost and Senior Vice President to advance institutions mission and strategic plan.
- Serve as an academic liaison to the University System of Georgia System Office
- Effectively implement new and ongoing USG initiatives pertaining to academics
- Contribute to the development of innovative academic programming
- Lead institutional accreditation activities and coordinate with colleges/schools on disciplinary accreditation
- Address barriers and strengthen academic program roadmaps (curricular and co-curricular), course scheduling, and course sequencing
- Collaborate across the institution to Improve student retention, success, degree completion
- Establish and enforce academic-related policies and procedures
- Implement effective and efficient policy, personnel, accreditation, continuous improvement, fiscal, and strategic processes and leadership
- Assist direct reports with achieving professional and institutional goals
- Represent the institution a variety of external constituents
- Perform a variety of related duties
Required Qualifications
The Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Affairs must have successful administrative experience in supervision of non-tenure-track, tenure-track, and tenured faculty and an earned doctorate, terminal degree, or equivalent. The AVP must possess a progressive record of increasing academic leadership and a distinguished record of teaching, scholarly achievement, and professional accomplishments sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of professor. Within the context of the opportunities and challenges of 21st century higher education, the AVP must demonstrate:
- Ability to successfully cultivate an environment of inclusiveness and excellence
- Leadership in assessing the effectiveness of programs, policies, services and strategies undertaken to student engagement, academic progression, academic support, and career development
- Skill in analyzing data and sharing results, with emphasis on academic program strength/viability, on a frequent and regular basis with academic colleges and other university constituents
- Experience in delivering career-focused professional programs in higher education
- Technology integration into the educational experience and online learning
- Successful history of serving traditional and nontraditional students
- Ability to build cohesive partnerships with academic colleges and other partners across the institution
- Creativity in addressing complaints and/or problems related to academic functions
- Ability to work closely with academic, shared governance structures to foster academic excellence
- Experience with leading and reporting accreditation
- Strong written and interpersonal skills
- Successful history of strategic planning, resource stewardship, and assessment
