Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, School of Nursing and Stony Brook Cancer Center, Research (Tenure-Track)

The School of Nursing (SON) and the Stony Brook Cancer Center (SBCC) are inviting applications for a faculty member at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the area of cancer research.

Under new leadership, the SBCC is experiencing a period of dynamic growth, and is partnering with the SON to hire a new faculty member with a nursing and research background focused on cancer. Candidates must have demonstrated research achievements commensurate with experience. The expectation is that those at the Assistant Professor level will have a high potential to attain NIH cancer relevant funding, if not already funded, and those at higher ranks will have said funding.

Candidates whose research focuses upon areas relevant to Community Outreach and Engagement (COE), survivorship and/or prevention, are of particular interest. Candidates with experience and interest in the use of artificial intelligence (AI), biomedical informatics and remote sensing technology are also of particular interest. Candidates with experience in the direction and conduct of prospective intervention trials encompassing one or more of the above thematic areas will integrate in well with the future growth strategy of the SBCC.

The successful applicant will have a primary appointment within the SON and will become a member of the SBCC. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in programmatic activities of the SBCC. Further, they will be expected to engage in and conduct multidisciplinary cancer research, leveraging onsite expertise in the aforementioned areas as well as experts in nursing, epidemiology, cancer prevention, public health, nutrition, exercise science, environmental science, behavioral science, psycho-oncology and basic and clinical cancer researchers.

The applicant will have research experience focused on innovative strategies to promote reduction in cancer burden across the continuum from control of risk factors to early diagnosis, access to care, survivorship and outcome research.

Stony Brook University is a large research-intensive state supported university with prestigious medical and nursing schools co-located with a science-based university and hospital. SBCC has over 120 members, and has robust research programs in the areas of cancer biology, metabolomics, imaging and prospective intervention clinical trials. The new Director, Raymond Bergan, is a physician/scientist expert in the field of cancer prevention and is driving growth of its population science program, doing so in close coordination with the SON.

Required Qualifications: PhD (or foreign equivalent) degree, national recognition in cancer research, commensurate with rank. An established record of externally funded grant awards for Associate and Professor ranks as the contact Principal Investigator (PI), and high potential for attaining such for Assistant Professor rank. First or senior author publications in peer reviewed journals. Eligibility for licensure in the State of New York.

Preferred Qualifications: Current cancer-relevant NIH, especially NCI or NINR, funding as contact PI; a record of having more than one grant; evidence of national level recognition; a record of innovative work that is focused on and/or has addressed the need of cancer patients, especially those who experience health care disparities; experience in conducting prospective intervention clinical trials on patients with cancer or at risk for such. A record of teaching, mentorship and service.
