IE University invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Faculty and Research in the School of Architecture and Design starting September 2027.
Reporting jointly to the Dean of the School of Architecture and Design and the IE University Vice Rector for Faculty and Research, the Associate Dean will provide academic leadership for the School's research strategy and faculty development.
The Associate Dean will work closely with the Dean and the Vice Rector for Faculty and Research to:
- Develop and implement the School's research strategy
- Mentor faculty in developing research agendas, publication strategies, and competitive funding applications.
- Advise faculty as they prepare for promotion and tenure processes.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration across the School and the wider University. Identify opportunities for external research funding, particularly through European and international programs.
- Represent the School on University-wide research committees and advocate for appropriate approaches to evaluating research in architecture and design.
- Contribute to the recruitment, mentoring, and long-term development of the School's faculty.
The principal measure of success in this role will be the success of the School's faculty: supporting colleagues in building stronger research portfolios, securing competitive funding, and increasing the quality and impact of their scholarly and creative work.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be an internationally respected scholar with substantial academic leadership experience and a demonstrated commitment to faculty development.
Applicants should have:
- A PhD in Architecture, Design, Engineering, Design History, Urbanism, or a closely related discipline.
- Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor (with tenure) or Full Professor, or equivalent.
- A strong record of research and scholarly publication.
- A sustained record of securing competitive external research funding and participating in major collaborative research initiatives.
- Experience mentoring faculty and supporting academic career development.
- Experience leading research centers, laboratories, institutes, or comparable academic initiatives.
- Experience participating in promotion and tenure processes, research evaluation, or institutional research governance.
The School is particularly interested in candidates with a track record of transdisciplinary work in architecture and design. Experience with European research programs, including Horizon Europe, ERC, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, UKRI, or comparable international funding frameworks, is highly desirable.
As an international university with over 100 nationalities present on campus, our working language is English. Knowledge of Spanish is not required.
