Associate Dean (Indigenous Engagement) – Identified (s25)

  • Based at our St Lucia campus, with occasional travel to our Gatton campus for the Faculty of Science position

About This Opportunity

UQ is recruiting three newly established Associate Dean (Indigenous Engagement) roles across the following Faculties:

These roles will work in close partnership with each Faculty’s Executive Dean to deliver strategic leadership and drive meaningful outcomes for respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, students, and communities within each Faculty. Each Faculty is an enthusiastic contributor to the UQ Reconciliation Action Plan, and the Associate Dean (Indigenous Engagement) has the responsibility to oversee contributions to this “one UQ” initiative.

To ensure the Faculty’s approach aligns with the principles and objectives of the UQ Reconciliation Action Plan and supports a one-UQ approach, the Associate Dean (Indigenous Engagement) will collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including:

  • The Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement)
  • Associate Deans (Indigenous Engagement) in other Faculties
  • Associate Deans Academic and Research
  • Heads of School and Faculty Executive Managers

About You

The University of Queensland considers that to perform this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld). The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

Additionally, you will bring:

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated leadership and a national profile in Indigenous engagement, teaching and research within a University environment.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in Indigenous engagement and leadership development across academic and community contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide academic leadership in partnered research and professional activities.
  • Proven experience in influencing change within a diverse organisation.
  • The credibility and skills to represent the Faculty’s interests in the University and the wider community, and with relevant professional and other bodies.
  • Strong relationships management experience, including negotiation and liaison skills, with a broad range of people at different levels and from different cultures.
  • Strong interpersonal ability and communication skills including diplomacy, collegiality, the ability to work with others to achieve outcomes, the ability to lead and implement change, and to lead and motivate staff.
