Associate Director, Academic Success Center
Job Description Summary:
The Associate Director of the Academic Success Center provides strategic leadership and operational management for ASC tutoring and promotional outreach, delivering comprehensive academic support for undergraduate and graduate students at the University of La Verne. This role directs the delivery of online and in-person tutoring services, advances program integration and visibility through faculty and departmental partnerships, drives continual improvement through evidence-based enhancements, and aligns initiatives with university student success and retention priorities. The Associate Director manages student employment processes, supervises student employees, oversees payroll and scheduling systems, and contributes to assessment, reporting, and campus-wide collaboration to strengthen academic outcomes. In addition, the Associate Director oversees strategic outreach, marketing campaigns, and promotional events, evaluates the reach and effectiveness of services, and contributes to reporting and data analysis to inform continuous improvement. Serving as an ASC representative on select committees and student success initiatives, the position ensures the ASC Tutoring program as an accessible, engaging, and student-centered resource for the campus community.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
- 1 year of professional experience with academic and/or student support services like student success centers, learning centers, writing centers, etc.
- 1 year of demonstrated experience interfacing with undergraduate and graduate populations, faculty, and programs within higher education
- 1 year of experience collaborating with faculty and academic departments on enhancing student success and retention efforts
- Sensitivity and commitment to the diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds of students and faculty
- Familiarity with higher education academic support standards and best practices
- Demonstrated investment in student learning, growth, and development
- Familiarity with teaching and learning challenges within the field of education
- Understanding of technology and platforms which enhance academic support services and student learning
- Excellent communication skills and desire to collaborate with various stakeholders in order to holistically support student learning
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated supervisory and/or leadership experience within an organization
- Experience with training/presentation development and facilitation for various audiences, including faculty, staff, and students
- Promotional and marketing experience, including knowledge of social media platforms and outreach strategies
- Familiarity with scholarship on student success centers, learning theory, and pedagogy
Specific Duties:
Duty: Provide strategic oversight and continuous improvement of the ASC Tutoring Program to meet the academic support needs of undergraduate and graduate students across online and in-person modalities. Advance the quality of student support and success by cultivating faculty and departmental partnerships that increase visibility, student engagement, and program integration. Drive program growth through evidence-based enhancements, high-quality and comprehensive services, and targeted outreach efforts—including class visits, presentations, and direct communications—that strengthen awareness, accessibility, and sustained utilization of tutoring across campus. In addition, consult with the ASC Director, the Writing program, and Rhetoric and Communications Studies on the design, training, and ongoing development of writing tutors; ultimately, training determinations are made by the Associate Director, but should be informed by the expertise of all parties.

Duty: Provide strategic oversight of ASC marketing and outreach by guiding Promotions Coordinators in developing and executing strategically planned events, campaigns, social media content, departmental materials, tabling activities, and center decor and displays. Advance the reach and impact of promotional strategies through assessment and data-informed enhancements, cultivating broad visibility, student engagement, and sustained utilization of ASC services across the campus community.

Duty: Assist in the management of the day-to-day operations and activities of the ASC, including supervising, supporting, and observing ASC Tutors, Promotions Coordinators, and Graduate Assistant(s) within the Associate Director’s areas of oversight (promotions and tutoring). Support daily operations as it relates to effective center operations, providing support to students, employees, and ASC visitors as necessary and appropriate.

Duty: Manage the full cycle of student employment processes for ASC Tutors, Promotions Coordinators, and Graduate Assistant(s) (within service areas) including recruitment, applicant tracking, and hiring compliance. This includes creating and maintaining position postings in PeopleAdmin, coordinating outreach and follow-up with faculty for Tutor recommendations, verifying candidate qualifications through transcript review in Banner, and collaborating with campus partners (e.g., Career Center, Academic Advising, etc.) to support recruitment initiatives and hiring events as applicable. Facilitate and coordinate interviews, make hiring determinations, and ensure alignment with university protocols across PeopleAdmin, Budget Office, Payroll, and Financial Aid to maintain compliance with student employment policies and procedures.

Duty: Oversee payroll processes for ASC Tutors, Promotions Coordinators, and Graduate Assistants (relevant to support areas) ensuring accuracy and compliance. This includes reviewing and editing student employee timecards, approving timesheets, and preparing payroll adjustments (e.g., Federal Work Study increases, PAFs) as needed. Export pay period costs for integration into Power BI dashboards (created by Data Analyst), monitoring individual student hours and earnings and reviewing FWS balances.

Duty: Manage ASC Tutors, Promotions Coordinators, and Graduate Assistant(s) (within support areas) scheduling and account systems to ensure smooth operations within the Academic Success Center. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining staff accounts (email, ADP, and LibCal), inputting availability, creating and balancing schedules, and making adjustments as needed. Oversee onboarding for all systems and applications, including updating the ASC Portal with student profiles, to support accurate records and efficient workflow for student employees.

Duty: Provide leadership in embedding the ASC tutoring program — including tutoring in residence halls and alternate locations — into university retention and student success efforts (e.g., Path to Progress, College Success Series, Summer Bridge programs, FYE programs, etc.). Serve as the primary representative and advocate of ASC tutoring in these initiatives, ensuring the program is systematically integrated, accessible, and sustained within cross-departmental efforts aimed at strengthening academic success and improving student retention outcomes.

Duty: Contribute to ASC data collection efforts by working with the ASC Director and Data Analyst to maintain records and communicate effectiveness of services through reporting and assessment, including producing reports which detail efforts and outcomes

Salary Range
Maximum: $74,262.95
Minimum: $69,368.37
