Department Summary
The primary mission of the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships at the University of Oregon is to help students achieve their educational goals by reducing financial barriers to attending the University of Oregon. This mission is carried out in an environment that places a high priority on student-centered service as well as meeting University enrollment goals. We provide information about financial assistance and scholarships to a diverse group of students and families, determine financial aid eligibility and award program funds to applicants in accordance with all applicable policies and rules, while advocating for students regarding financial aid issues at the institutional, State, and Federal levels.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Vice President and Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships, this position has significant administrative responsibility. It assists the Director in managing the office and its operations and supervises staff. It assists with formulating, interpreting, and implementing policy. It ensures compliance with federal, state, and institutional requirements. This individual also works closely with the Associate Director of Operations and the Associate Director for Scholarships, and the Associate Director of Advising to ensure that financial aid systems, processes, policies and procedures comply with federal, state, institutional and foundation regulations and policies. Also, to ensure that the office is best prepared and staffed to meet student service demands. Also occasionally represents the director at meetings and on committees that impact university compliance with federal regulations.
Minimum Requirements
- Master's degree or equivalent education and experience.
- Seven years of experience in student financial aid.
- Managerial level experience in administering student financial aid programs.
- Two years of supervisory experience.
- Must not be in default of Title IV loans.
Professional Competencies
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to effectively manage teams and develop staff.
- Experience in project management, conducting audits, and managing compliance.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems related to the administration of Federal financial aid.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience increasing student access and engagement, particularly for students underserved in higher education.
