Associate Director of Alumni Programs
Florida State University is currently in the leadership phase of a comprehensive campaign. As the leadership phase of the campaign begins, the Division of University Advancement is accelerating the hiring of additional alumni engagement officers’ campus-wide and is excited to build out its team. Responsibilities
This position provides supervision and operational leadership for affinity and volunteer engagement initiatives, including Alumni Networks, the Student Alumni Association and general volunteer opportunities. This role develops and implements strategies that strengthen the volunteer lifecycle, expands and standardizes volunteer opportunities to support the Division of University Advancement and FSU priorities. The Associate Director exercises independent judgment to identify opportunities and translates strategy into scalable processes across alumni engagement team while leveraging data to drive continuous improvement and impact.
Affinity Networks and Student Engagement
- Provide oversight for all networks including strategy, structure, annual planning, scholarship management, development of new networks based on priorities, and ongoing evaluation to strengthen engagement outcomes.
- Collaborate with Senior Director of Alumni Engagement to connect programs and outreach opportunities to network and student participation, volunteer involvement and outcomes to align comprehensive engagement approach.
- Partner with alumni engagement team in college, schools, units to actively and strategically diffuse initiatives as appropriate and identify areas for joint programming to multiply outcomes and maximize resources.
Volunteer Engagement
- Mange team and execute Volunteer Leadership Summit/s and other conference type engagement that trains volunteers across alumni engagement spectrum and prepares volunteers for success based on division priorities.
- Develop and implement strategies that strengthen volunteer recruitment, onboarding, engagement, retention, and offboarding; design and operationalize a comprehensive volunteer lifecycle model and scalable processes to support long-term volunteer success.
- Identify and implement new engagement approaches, including micro-volunteer opportunities and leadership development pathways; continually evaluate new and emerging practices.
- Lead FSU National Day of Service and Admitted student engagement/receptions.
Data, Metrics, Budget
- Establish and maintain systems to track volunteer activity, including hours, participation, and engagement trends according to CASE standards and best practices; perform benchmarking research as requested.
- Partner with department leadership to develop and maintain a Volunteer Engagement dashboard and ensure data stewardship in line with DUA practices.
- Analyze data to evaluate effectiveness, identify trends, and provide strategic recommendations that inform decision-making, resource allocation, and program direction.
- Develop and manage annual budget.
Campus Collaborations
- Serves as primary FSU Connect staff liaison regularly convening collaborators including Senior Director, Alumni Engagement, Senior Director of Colleges, Schools and Units, and Career Center staff.
- Act as liaison to, and build strong working partnership with, Leadership Annual Giving Officers and Annual Giving; ensure network and volunteer alignment on philanthropic priorities; connect opportunities from networks, volunteers and individuals to appropriate advancement colleagues and provide support as needed.
- Develop key partnerships to support student to alumni journey map; Partner with Admissions and Student Affairs on specific projects.
Supervisory and Special Initiatives:
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance management for Volunteer Engagement staff; Establish priorities, manage day-to-day operations and outcomes.
- Serve as FSU Alumni Affairs liaison to Seminole Tribe of Florida for Homecoming and other signature initiatives; collaborate and partner with University Relations on this and other initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and four years of experience in higher education advancement; or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of experience in the same. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.)
A valid Florida or Georgia Driver's License or the ability to obtain.
