Job Summary:

The Associate Director of Enterprise Infrastructure provides strategic and operational leadership for the core technology platforms that support teaching, learning, research, and administrative operations at Oberlin College. Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Infrastructure, this full-time, 12-month Administrative and Professional Staff position is responsible for the planning, governance, security, and continuous modernization of the College's enterprise cloud services, identity and access management ecosystem, private cloud infrastructure, and foundational cybersecurity practices.

This role requires a balanced combination of technical depth, organizational leadership, project execution, and service management discipline. The Associate Director ensures that institutional infrastructure remains secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with Oberlin's academic mission and strategic priorities, while maintaining high standards of reliability, compliance, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

Enterprise Cloud and Platform Services

Provide leadership for the design, administration, and lifecycle management of enterprise collaboration and cloud platforms, ensuring service reliability, cost stewardship, and alignment with institutional security standards.

Key service domains include:

  • Google Workspace administration, governance, storage management, and collaboration optimization
  • Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams, with responsibility for licensing, security configuration, and service health
  • Microsoft Azure infrastructure including computer, networking, storage, automation, and cloud security architecture

Identity and Access Management (IDM)

Serve as the College's operational leader for Identity and Access Management, with responsibility for the reliability, governance, and continuous improvement of institutional identity services.

Primary systems include:

  • Okta for single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, lifecycle automation, and application integration
  • Microsoft Entra ID for directory services, conditional access, and identity governance

While IDM operational ownership resides within Digital Infrastructure, the Associate Director collaborates closely with the Information Security unit to:

  • Align identity controls with institutional cybersecurity frameworks and risk posture
  • Strengthen authentication, authorization, and access governance practices
  • Support monitoring, vulnerability remediation, and incident response coordination
  • Advance Zero Trust architecture and audit readiness

Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Risk Management

In partnership with Information Security leadership, ensure infrastructure services are secure by design and compliant with institutional policy and regulatory expectations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implementation of system hardening standards and infrastructure security controls
  • Participation in vulnerability management and remediation processes
  • Technical leadership during infrastructure-related security incidents
  • Support for compliance reviews, audits, and resilience planning

Team Leadership and Operational Management

Provide direct supervision and professional leadership for systems administrators and infrastructure staff.

Key expectations:

  • Establish operational priorities, performance expectations, and professional development plans
  • Foster a culture of service excellence, collaboration, accountability, and security awareness
  • Coordinate closely with other CIT units and campus stakeholders to support institutional technology needs

Project Delivery, Change Management, and Service Governance

Lead infrastructure modernization initiatives and ensure disciplined execution of technology change.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversight of cloud migrations, platform upgrades, and infrastructure lifecycle initiatives
  • Application of structured project management methodologies to ensure delivery within scope, schedule, and budget
  • Enforcement of formal change management practices to minimize operational risk and service disruption
  • Maintenance of service catalogs, technical documentation, and operational runbooks

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • Minimum five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, and identity management
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise with:
    • Google Workspace
    • Microsoft 365
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Okta and Microsoft Entra ID
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, identity security, system hardening, and infrastructure risk mitigation
  • Demonstrated experience supervising technical staff and managing complex technology initiatives
  • Ability to work primarily onsite with limited remote flexibility

Compensation:

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Compensation includes an excellent benefits package including tuition benefits for eligible children to attend Oberlin College and many other institutions.
