Position Overview:
Southwestern University has an immediate opening for a Associate Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life. This position will report to the Associate Vice President for Student Life / Dean of Students. The Associate Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life serves as the central professional resource for the fraternity and sorority community at Southwestern University. This position provides strategic leadership, advising, and administrative oversight for all recognized fraternities and sororities, supporting their growth, collaboration, and alignment with university values. The Associate Director manages risk reduction, event registration, housing and membership tracking, and community-wide assessment while fostering an inclusive and safe environment that promotes leadership development, student success, and positive campus engagement. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.
This position includes living on campus in a university-provided apartment and participating in the on-call duty rotation for campus-wide student emergencies, including those in residential areas.
Essential Duties:
- Direct a central office for all fraternity and sorority activity at the University, including but not limited to:
- Advise leadership councils, chapter leadership, and individual fraternity and sorority organizations to promote effective self-governance, accountability, and leadership development.
- Coordinate processes for recruitment, new member education, and for registering and approving social events, including implementing and monitoring risk management protocols.
- Maintain accurate, updated membership and housing records for all chapters, ensuring compliance with university policies and national/international organization requirements.
- Respond to behavioral or crisis incidents involving fraternities or sororities chapters as appropriate.
- Develop and deliver educational programming related to health and safety, risk management, leadership skills, and community values.
- Collect, analyze, and report data on chapter and council performance, membership statistics, retention, overall community impact, and other relevant metrics.
- Lead efforts to promote an inclusive and equitable fraternity and sorority community, fostering collaboration across councils, chapters, and the broader campus community.
- Provide leadership in a cross-functional student life team and collaborate with campus partners on initiatives around student engagement, wellness, belonging, and campus safety, including response to behavioral or crisis incidents involving fraternity or sorority chapters as appropriate.
Additional Duties:
- Partner with alumni, advisors, and national headquarters to strengthen chapter support systems and enhance student success.
- Lead the development and revision of policies, procedures, and resources relevant to the fraternity and sorority community, ensuring alignment with university standards, legal compliance, and best practices.
- Serve on the Residence Life On Call Team.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Division of Student Life and institutional priorities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in higher education, behavioral science, counseling, or related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in fraternity and sorority life (strongly preferred), or in college student development, student life, or related areas of college and/or university administration.
- Experience in campus leadership programming and understanding of basic student development theories.
- Experience in providing guidance, mentorship, or supervision to student leaders or entry-level professionals.
- Ability to navigate and support conflict resolution among students or student organizations, demonstrating sound judgment and interpersonal skills in addressing sensitive issues.
- Driver's license to drive a University van.
- Ability to quickly learn institutionally specific software such as Google Workspace, Ellucian Colleague, The Housing Director, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in higher education, student affairs administration, counseling, behavioral sciences, or related field.
Starting annual salary: $57,500. The final offer for the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience and may exceed the starting salary.
