Associate Director of Nursing Program
Under the direction of the Director for the School of Nursing, the Associate Director of Nursing supports the academic and administrative leadership of the School of Nursing at Mount St. Mary’s University with a primary focus on student advising, retention, and outcomes assessment. Working closely with the Director of Nursing, this role is central to fostering student success, monitoring program effectiveness, and supporting continuous improvement within the nursing program. In keeping with the University’s Catholic mission and the School of Nursing’s commitment to ethical leadership and human dignity, the Associate Director helps ensure that students are supported and formed to exercise excellent clinical judgment, professional integrity, and compassionate care.
Primary Job Duties
- Promote a culture of accompaniment and high standards that help students meet rigorous expectations and reinforce the program’s mission.
- Provide leadership and coordination for student advising processes, including academic progression monitoring, remediation, and graduation readiness.
- Lead and implement a mission-driven advising, mentorship, and retention strategy that supports student success, persistence, and timely program completion while fostering professional formation and ethical responsibility in the nursing vocation.
- Promote a collaborative faculty culture across didactic, laboratory and clinical settings.
- Serve as the primary administrator for student-related assessment data, including course outcomes, progression benchmarks, NCLEX preparation metrics, as well as the program’s ability to form graduates who respect human dignity and practice person-centered care.
- Collaborate with faculty to analyze assessment data and recommend evidence-based improvements to curriculum, advising, and student support structures.
- Coordinate academic support interventions and refer students to appropriate campus resources as needed.
- Support accreditation and regulatory reporting related to student outcomes, assessment, and continuous quality improvement.
- Participate in recruitment, orientation, and onboarding activities for nursing students.
- Teach three nursing courses per academic year based on program needs and qualifications.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate degree in nursing from an accredited program.
- Eligibility for Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Maryland.
- Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience.
- Experience in nursing education, academic advising, student support services, or assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting and advancing the Catholic mission and identity of Mount St. Mary’s University through one’s professional responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Terminal degree in nursing (Ph.D. or DNP).
- Experience with student retention initiatives and outcomes assessment in higher education, preferably within a mission-driven context.
- Familiarity with accreditation and regulatory expectations in nursing education.
Hours
40-hour week
(Weekends are occasional)
Targeted Salary
$87,000/year
(Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications).
