Associate Director of Translational Research for Stony Brook Cancer Center, Associate/Full Professor, Cancer Center/School of Medicine
The Stony Brook University Cancer Center (SBCC), Stony Brook, NY, is under new leadership and is experiencing a highly dynamic phase of growth across the basic and clinical research enterprise. SBCC is seeking an experienced researcher to lead the development of a robust translational research program. The Associate Director for Translational Research (ADTR) will integrate the activities of basic, applied and clinical researchers in a bidirectional manner. They will do so in a manner that drives advances in the understanding of cancer biology operative in humans, the development and testing of novel therapeutic and diagnostic approaches, and will do so with the goals of seeking to improve outcomes in patients with cancer or at risk for such.
The successful candidate will have an established record in the areas of basic and/or clinical research, of leading research teams, of working across disciplines and of serving as the lead investigator (i.e., contact PI) on external peer reviewed national level funding, with that from the NCI considered highly desirable.

Participation in the mission of the SBCC is anticipated, including leading expansion of its clinical trial portfolio, enhancing collaborations with existing strong programs in cancer biology, metabolomics, lipidomics, cancer imaging, bioinformatics, quantitative biology, bioengineering and chemical biology and drug discovery. The ADTR will create bridges with efforts related to population health, education and training and community outreach and engagement. Also, they will strive to provide an environment that fosters innovative ideas from those with unique backgrounds. Also expected is a commitment to serving the needs of populations experiencing high levels of cancer disparity.
Required Qualifications:
MD, MD/PhD or PhD (or foreign equivalent) degree with a national recognition in translational research. Candidates should have demonstrated leadership abilities and a strong background in mentorship across the cancer research training continuum. They should also have a record as serving as contact PI of national level peer reviewed funding and/or as overall study PI of one or more clinical trials funded either by industry and/or through cooperative groups. Also, they should have a publication record that reflects and supports their leadership status on external funding and/or clinical trials.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates serving as PI on current externally funded grant awards, especially those from the NCI and/or a strong background in leading investigator-initiated trials are encouraged to apply.
