DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Office of International Programs the Associate Director, Transfer Advising, serves an important role in providing services for international students to support their successful enrollment and progress toward reaching their goals. This person is a leader of the college’s transfer advising services for international students and is a member of a dynamic advising team that is passionate about student success.

This role supports the College's mission of teaching, learning and community through student immigration, transfer and academic advising. This role plans and implements transfer activities including transfer fairs, university visits to campus, and workshops. This role also actively participates in other student support services including activities, orientation, and workshops.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • University Transfer Advising, including researching universities’ admission requirements and application policies, working in tandem w/ students in creating a complete academic road map (with specific course loads and university application tasks for every quarter a student is enrolled), and reviewing transcripts
  • Serve as SEVIS Designated School Official (DSO) and provide complex immigration-related advising pertaining to obtaining and maintenance of F-1 student non-immigrant status, including course load requirements, employment, travel and reinstatement of status.
  • Manage partnerships with university partners, including creating and updating university transfer agreements
  • Register new students into courses based on program of study and English and math placements
  • Plan and lead biannual transfer fairs
  • Create and lead workshop sessions for international students on transfer advising and other advising topics
  • Participate in quarterly New Student Orientation activities, including leading workshops
  • Disseminate transfer advising information to OIP team and college community, may include training other staff members
  • As part of a dynamic and multifaceted team, fill in and collaborate with other OIP service areas when needed

This is an exempt position that reports to the Executive Director of the Office of International Programs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent combination of relevant educational and work experience
  • One year of advising in college student services setting
  • Knowledge of university transfer processes
  • Demonstrated ability and experience related to equity, inclusion, and multicultural proficiency that supports the College’s commitment to advancing the creation of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus climate
  • Excellent written, oral, listening and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to use and learn new technologies
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident to serve as a Designated School Official

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MA or MS degree
  • Experience leading workshops and information sessions
  • Professional experience working with non-immigrant F 1 visa holders and immigration matters
  • Experience as SEVIS DSO
  • Experience living, studying and/or working abroad

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed in an office setting, and onsite/in-person. Work is generally stationary, sitting down with students or in front of the computer for most of the day. Other physical activity includes walking to the lobby to greet students and standing for extended periods of time during orientations, workshops, or class presentations. Some evening and weekend work may be required for special events.

COMPENSATION:

Salary is $63,602.35- $72,391.92 and is based on the Edmonds College administrative/exempt salary schedule, plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options and more. Vacation and leave package includes 12 sick days per year, 11 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, and 24 vacation leave days per year.

WORK SCHEDULE:

40-hour work week. Monday through Friday with varying start and end times (8:00 am to 5:00 pm or 9:00 am to 6:00 pm).

FLSA Status:

The position is an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act requirements.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.
  • Criminal background check. Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
