Associate Faculty - Professional Technical Department (Advanced Manufacturing and Design)
The Opportunity:
Skagit Valley College is accepting applications for associate faculty to teach for the Professional Technical Department for the 2026/2027 academic year. The purpose of posting this position is to build a pool of qualified instructors interested in teaching Advanced Manufacturing and Design classes. This Associate Faculty position will instruct students seeking their associate's or bachelor's degree in Advanced Manufacturing and Design.
Associate Faculty are essential to developing and delivering curriculum tailored to each courses specific needs. The program covers a wide range of topics, from hands-on technical training to management and leadership in manufacturing, using diverse instructional methods such as in-person classes and online asynchronous learning. The program spans industries such as sporting goods, agriculture, aerospace, and more.
As an Associate Faculty member, you will collaborate with department colleagues to create and implement innovative curriculum designed to prepare students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the manufacturing industry.

- Woodworking
- Injection Molding
- Product Development
- CNC Machining (wood, metals, plastics, etc.)
- Composites
- Mold Making and Design for various production methods
- Industrial Automation, Robotics, and Mechatronics
- Supply Chain Management
- Operations Management
- Project Management
- Material Testing
- Graphic Design and Packaging

The Location:
Skagit Valley College is on the traditional and unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples... Located in a geographically diverse region between the dynamic metropolitan hubs of Seattle and Vancouver, BC... campuses in Mount Vernon, Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island, and centers in Friday Harbor, a Marine Technology Center in Anacortes, and a Brewing Academy in Burlington.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in Advanced Manufacturing and Design through assigned course modalities;
- Deliver culturally relevant curriculum that reflects and supports student diversity;
- Promote equity and inclusion in the learning environment;
- Create a positive and engaging learning atmosphere using diverse teaching methods;
- Use inclusive strategies to enhance student success inside and outside the classroom;
- Develop and adapt curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students and the community;
- Provide course syllabi and outlines to students and relevant departments.
- Assess and document student performance and program outcomes.
- Contribute to program development, strategic planning, and outcome assessments;
- Fulfill faculty responsibilities per college policies and agreements;
- Participate in department and college-wide activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated expertise in manufacturing techniques or subjects relevant to the courses being taught;
- Strong communication and teaching skills;
- Ability to effectively engage with a diverse student population;

- Familiarity with safety protocols in a manufacturing environment.
- Foster a growth mindset, encouraging all students to learn through practice and effort;
- Employ inclusive, active learning strategies that respect diverse cultures and backgrounds;

- Effectively teach and communicate with adult learners in Advanced Manufacturing and Design;
- Use diverse teaching methods to support learning for a varied student population;
- Promote equity, multicultural understanding, and appreciation for underrepresented groups;
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, staff, students, and administrators from diverse backgrounds;
- Demonstrate strong leadership, sound decision-making, and appropriate delegation skills.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Five (5) years of practical, professional experience in a manufacturing-related field; AND/OR
- A degree or formal training in manufacturing, engineering, industrial technology, or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three (3) years of teaching experience at a post-secondary institution;
- Fifteen (15) or more years of industry experience;
- Degree or industry certifications in the field related to the subject being taught.

Salary and Benefits:
The salary rate for part-time faculty is in accordance with the negotiated agreement... The current FCU rate for the 2025-2026 Academic Year at Step A is $1,084.00 (includes I-732 COLA of 3.0% for 2025-26).
Example of Associate Faculty pay (this is for illustrative purposes only): Course: BISC 220 | 33 lecture, 44 lab → 7 FCUs → $7,588.00
