Associate Lecturer - Cloud Computing
Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an Associate Lecturer to join the teaching team and support the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences this Autumn 2026.
We have an opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to support modules related to Cloud Technologies, teaching on Thursday evenings 6-9pm.
You would contribute to teaching and supporting students in practical and applied areas of cloud computing technologies, distributed systems and modern data engineering workflows.
You will have excellent knowledge of Python and practical experience with modern JavaScript frameworks including Node.js. Experience with cloud platforms, Kubernetes, containerisation technologies and deployment methods is highly desirable.
Previous teaching or industry experience in cloud-native systems, AI/ML workflows, data engineering pipelines or DevOps environments is desirable.
You should be able to support students in both theoretical and hands-on practical activities, including programming, analytics workflows and scalable systems.
Further essential requirements for this role are:
- Strong practical programming skills in Python
- Knowledge of cloud computing technologies and cloud platforms
- Experience with Kubernetes and deployment workflows
- Ability to support practical software engineering and analytics activities
- Excellent communication and organisational skills

Remuneration:
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College, starting rate £69.68 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay, for contact hours worked.
This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
