- Base Salary $109,263 - $121,054 pro-rata + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
The Discipline of Hebrew, Biblical and Jewish Studies at the University of Sydney is the only one of its nature in Australia, with programs in Modern Hebrew and Jewish Civilisation.
The Discipline are seeking an Associate Lecturer in Holocaust Studies and Jewish Civilisation (Education Focused). Education-focused roles are a specialised category of academic engagement reserved for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, pedagogical practice and design. In this role you will be expected to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within the program and will be on a trajectory towards leadership in educational design and delivery. The majority of your contribution will be within education (70%), with a proportion of workload (20%) available for research.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- teach and supervise at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and help coordinate and promote the Israel, Jewish Civilisation, and Holocaust Studies programs in an interdisciplinary environment, working closely with the Discipline of History, and developing links with other Disciplines and Schools in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
- program and units of study content development, coordination and review including the development of teaching materials, preparing and delivering lectures and conduct tutorial, seminars and workshops.
- take part in administrative activities in the Discipline and serve on School and Faculty committees
- assist in developing cohort building events and programs for HJS students.
- assist in and develop outreach activities.
- contribute to professional and community collaborations in the field.
About you
- Masters (minimum), or a PhD (preferred) with a preference for Holocaust and / or Jewish Studies
- have teaching experience in Israel and Holocaust Studies, as well as medieval and early modern Jewish Studies
- be an innovative and creative thinker who can strengthen and expand the program, as well as being able to contribute to the broader Jewish Civilisation program
- evidence of being self-driven and experienced, as well as working well in teams.
