Associate Professor in Criminal (Procedural) Law
Job Summary: The position involves working as an Associate Professor in Criminal and Criminal Procedural Law at the Willem Pompe Institute for Criminal Sciences within the Faculty of Law, Economics, Governance, and Organization at Utrecht University. You will teach, conduct research, and provide leadership in a diverse and inclusive team.
Responsibilities:
- Teach bachelor and master students in areas such as criminal law, criminal procedural law, and potentially other programs like Law and Technology in Europe or Law and Sustainability in Europe.
- Monitor and improve the quality of education, including content, teaching methods, and integration of academic skills.
- Lead teaching teams and mentor colleagues.
- Conduct research aligned with departmental programs such as the Montaigne Centre for Rule of Law and Administration of Justice, and actively seek external research funding.
- Supervise PhD students and contribute to externally funded research projects.
- Perform management tasks, including leading staff and participating in departmental governance.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- PhD in a relevant field with expertise in criminal and criminal procedural law.
- Experience in setting up and conducting legal research, publishing results, and integrating research into teaching.
- Strong commitment to collaborative teamwork, sharing knowledge, and fostering an inclusive environment.
- Interest and experience in administrative and management tasks.
- Ability to deliver inspiring education using creative teaching methods and considering student diversity.
- Hold the Basic Teaching Qualification and be willing to obtain the Senior Teaching Qualification and Senior Research Qualification within two years.
- Contribute to societal developments through impactful research and education.
What the Employer Offers:
- A 12-month contract with prospects of permanent employment.
- Full-time workweek of 32-40 hours with a gross monthly salary between €6,286 and €7,651 (scale 13 or 14 under the Dutch Universities Collective Labour Agreement).
