"Associate Professor in Evolutionary Genetics"

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Evolutionary Genetics. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

We seek candidates who conduct conceptually driven research using cutting edge genomic technologies, computational methods, experimental, and field-based approaches to study fundamental questions in evolutionary genetics of fish, with particular emphasis on hybridization, adaptive introgression, speciation, and the genetic basis of adaptation. We are especially interested in candidates whose research investigates the evolutionary consequences of gene flow between species, genetic incompatibilities, and the role of hybridization in generating biodiversity in North American fishes. We seek applications from candidates whose research program complements the research programs of the highly collaborative faculty currently in the department, specifically by bridging molecular mechanisms with evolutionary processes in natural populations, and integrates with our existing group in aquatic systems.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in evolutionary biology, genetics, or genomics with a clearly demonstrated exceptional record of excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, distinguished awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong endorsements by referees, and the teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below).
