Associate/Professor of Construction Management

New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE)

The future of the built environment depends on professionals who can navigate sustainability, modern construction methods, and sector-wide change. NMITE is creating an educational environment that supports this need through practical, interdisciplinary and industry-connected learning.

If you share this commitment and want to shape how future construction professionals learn and engage with industry challenges, we would be pleased to hear from you.

Who are we?

NMITE is a new and ambitious UK Higher Education provider created to rethink how engineering and technology education is delivered — with a mission to make a real difference to learners, industry, and the region. We welcomed our first graduates in 2025 and continue to grow our teaching, research, and civic engagement footprint.

Embodying NMITE’s commitment to sustainable development is our flagship-built environment programme a BSc (Hons) Construction Management degree which was launched in 2025. Delivered from our state-of-the-art Skylon Campus the degree is delivered by the team behind our award-winning Centre for Advanced Timber Technology (CATT), which reflects the transformative potential of timber and more eco-compatible materials to meet the challenges and opportunities for a sustainable built environment.

CATT brings together industry partners, technical specialists, and educators to explore these opportunities and connect students with real-world, sustainable construction practice. The programme is deliberately different: challenge-based, interdisciplinary, and designed around the needs of a rapidly changing sector.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a full-time, permanent Assistant or Associate Professor who can develop learning experiences and teach in one or more of the following areas: Control, Civil/Construction, Data & Modelling, Electronics, Energy, Mechanical, and Software Engineering. The ability and willingness to teach mathematics to students would be an advantage (though this is not essential).

The successful candidate will begin their appointment as Programme Lead for the BSc (Hons) Construction Management programme. Programme leadership at NMITE is appointed on a two-year tenure, after which the role is opened for re-application in line with our standard academic leadership cycle.

This is a leadership role for someone who wants to make a genuine impact on how construction and the built environment are taught - integrating sustainability, MMC, digital technologies, and circular economy thinking into an industry-facing curriculum. You will work with colleagues across CATT, external partners, and the wider NMITE academic team to create engaging, interactive learning experiences and a nationally recognised centre of excellence in sustainable construction.

Your work will shape the success of the programme and NMITE’s future development in construction and built environment disciplines, including potential expansion into areas such as Civil Engineering.

Responsibilities of the Role

Lead and Deliver an Innovative Construction Curriculum

  • Lead NMITE’s BSc (Hons) Construction Management programme and steer the route to full CIOB accreditation.
  • Develop and curate high-impact, interactive learning experiences across topics such as sustainability, modern methods of construction, project management, retrofit technologies, digital tools, regulatory frameworks, and lifecycle/circular economy approaches.
  • Teach, mentor, assess, and support students, fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
  • Translate research, industry practice, and sector innovation into authentic challenge-based learning.
  • Partner with organisations across the timber value chain, construction sector, and community groups to co-create real-world projects.

Grow NMITE and Strengthen Our External Presence

  • Build and leverage networks with industry, professional bodies, and educators to enhance NMITE’s impact and reputation.
  • Contribute to the institution’s strategic ambitions, including new programme development and the broader academic curriculum.
  • Support outreach, CPD development, and lifelong learning initiatives aligned with NMITE’s mission.
  • Promote NMITE’s ethos, values, and pedagogical approach across internal and external communities.
  • Be adaptable and collaborative, supporting the wider delivery of NMITE as a growing, innovative institution.

Develop Scholarship, Research, and Sector Influence

  • Produce high-quality outputs, thought leadership, or industry-impact activities related to sustainable built environment and MMC.
  • Maintain your own professional development and contribute to the development of others.
  • Stay informed about pedagogical innovations and sector developments.
  • In time, contribute to income generation through research, knowledge exchange, or CPD activity.
  • Engage constructively with colleagues across NMITE to support interdisciplinary working and institutional development.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g., construction, engineering, management, or education) or equivalent.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIOB, ICE, RICS).
  • Passion for sustainable built environment delivery and modern methods of construction.
  • Broad understanding of construction, sustainability, lifecycle approaches, MMC, and project management.
  • Experience teaching at FE/HE level or delivering high-quality professional learning.
  • Track record of developing educational or outreach content, including the use of innovative approaches.
  • Experience of project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and construction management practice.
  • Effective communicator, collaborator, and proactive team member aligned with NMITE’s values.

Desirable

  • Experience teaching MMC, advanced timber technology, retrofit, digital construction, or BIM.
  • Familiarity with HE curriculum development and accreditation processes.
  • Experience in novel pedagogies, digital tools, design team collaboration, or data-informed construction methods.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting students or early-career professionals.

NMITE offers a rewarding and dynamic environment with small-group teaching and a workload model that supports all the activities above.
