Department: Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences

Full Time (1.0 FTE) Associate Professorship of Orthopaedic Surgery in association with a non-stipendiary Supernumerary Fellowship at Worcester College.

Salary: Grade A82 Associate Professor (Med): £109,725 - £145,478 (1 FTE) per annum, plus College benefits and any applicable NHS merit awards.

Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, to be held in the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology & Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS). The Department seeks to appoint an outstanding researcher at honorary consultant level to join the Musculoskeletal Clinical Academic Sciences team at the Botnar Institute for Musculoskeletal Sciences. This is a joint appointment with a non-stipendiary Supernumerary Fellowship at Worcester College.

The principal duties of the post will be to conduct international quality clinical research in the field of orthopaedic surgery and to deliver teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, share in the administrative work of the Department and College, and carry out other administrative duties as agreed with the Head of Department. You must also be qualified to work at consultant level in the NHS as a consultant orthopaedic hip surgeon.

You should have an excellent track record in clinical research and medical education. You will be expected to have sufficient experience to lead large national trials and associated studies in orthopaedics and musculoskeletal disease. You must hold a higher degree (PhD/DPhil) and be medically and surgically qualified at consultant level with fellowship training and consultant level experience in orthopedic primary and revision hip surgery. You will show evidence of distinction in research through publications, invited lectures and have sustainable peer-reviewed funding in orthopaedic and musculoskeletal research, as well as an understanding of the University’s obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty.

The Associate Professorship will be held in conjunction with an honorary contract with the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and you will undertake clinical, surgical administrative, and other hospital duties as agreed by the Head of Department, the Medical Sciences Divisional Board and the NHS.
