Qualifications:
Required
- Earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program.
- Eligible for appropriate counselor certification and licensure in the State of Oklahoma.
- Evidence of an established research agenda, and scholarly contributions to the field through published research and presentations at national conferences.
- Ability to teach courses in the CACREP core.
Preferred
- A record of effective teaching, supervision, and professional activity.
- Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching and student advising through the use of traditional and web-based education technologies and/or experience or interest in teaching online courses.
- Ability and commitment to mentor and supervise graduate students.
- Demonstrate knowledge, commitment, and sensitivity to a variety of backgrounds, collaboration, and innovation.

Description:
The Position
The Professional Counseling M.Ed. Program, in the Department of Educational Psychology, Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education, at the University of Oklahoma, seeks an Associate Professor with a demonstrated record of strength in teaching, supervision, and research, along with a primary professional identity as a counselor educator. Although the start date is January 2027, the regular nine-month appointment begins on August 15, 2027. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and background. Summer employment is contingent on student demand and funding.
The Program
The Professional Counseling Program at the University of Oklahoma offers professional preparation at the master's degree level for qualified persons wishing to become clinical professional counselors, school counselors, and/or drug and alcohol counselors. The program offers (1) a 60-hour CACREP - accredited, Clinical Professional Counseling track that meets the state of Oklahoma LPC requirements, (2) a 45-hour Drug and Alcohol counseling track, and (3) a 45-hour School Counseling track. The Drug and Alcohol Counseling concentration includes five specialized courses that have been approved by the Oklahoma Board of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
Our primary training goals are to facilitate student integration of counseling theory, research, and practice; and to foster the development and application of holistic counseling skills. We seek to integrate varied multicultural perspectives into our students' professional training and development. A foundational value of the program is to foster understanding, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making.
