Associate Professor or Professor in Philosophy (LEMM)
The Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto at Mississauga invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the Language, Epistemology, Mind, Metaphysics (LEMM) areas of philosophy. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.
Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Philosophy or a closely related field with a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research, and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. The successful candidate’s research will focus on one or more of the LEMM areas.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the candidate’s visibility and prominence in the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
The successful candidate is expected to strengthen the undergraduate education and tri-campus graduate education in one or more of the LEMM areas of philosophy.
Evidence of excellence in teaching and experience in research supervision will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The University of Toronto has three campuses, Mississauga, St. George, and Scarborough, each with its own Department of Philosophy offering undergraduate programs. The advertised position is on the Mississauga campus. The Graduate Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto is a tri-campus department, consisting of philosophy faculty appointed on all three campuses. Graduate teaching and supervision typically take place on the St. George campus.
