The new hire will teach an approved curriculum of introductory, advanced-level courses, which may include graduate courses, support students in maintaining satisfactory academic progress, serve on thesis and dissertation committees, and pursue external funding opportunities. Additional responsibilities include participating in retention initiatives; advising and mentoring students; maintaining and reporting student grades and attendance, success reporting items, and timely submission of midterm and final grades in accordance with university policies; and other teaching and course review duties as assigned. This position also will carry out discipline-related tasks as directed by the Chair or the Dean, including research and scholarly activity, recruitment, curriculum development and other activities such as service to the Department, College and University as needed/required. Primary Function of Organizational Unit: The Department of Criminal Justice is housed within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and Criminal Justice with a Certificate in Crime Scene Investigation, a Master of Science, and a Ph.D. with four areas of specialization: Digital Forensics, Investigative Science, Social Justice, and Research Methods. The Department has over 550 majors. The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS is an academic unit that reports to the Office of the Provost/Division of Academic Affairs and enrolls more than 2,000 students and has more than 160 full-time faculty members. N.C.
