Associate Research Scientist

Position Description

Dr. David Ho's lab at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center (ADARC) is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join his team as an Associate Research Scientist.

The Ho lab focuses on basic and clinical development of antibody therapeutics and vaccines against HIV-1, SARS-CoV-2 and other Infectious Diseases. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of Virology.

The primary focus of this position is to conduct research on antiviral antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 and H5N1 influenza virus to understand the evolution of these viruses under antibody pressure. The experiments will involve isolation and characterization of monoclonal antibodies, generation of pseudoviruses, and performance of virus neutralization assays. Other skills needed include mutagenesis studies to create viral variants and modified monoclonal antibodies, as well as carrying out PCR and sequencing. A basic understanding of virology is essential.

Specific Duties include:

  • Participate in experimental designs
  • Plan and execute bench experiments
  • Collect data and perform data analyses
  • Summarize data and write manuscripts
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the PI
  • Oversee the work of more junior research staff and may direct the implementation of laboratory processes/protocols.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Virology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related field. At least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience

Preferred Qualifications The applicant should be self-motivated and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present research findings to diverse audiences. S/he should also have outstanding organizational skills, the ability to multitask, and be able to work independently as well as within a team
