Located in Ōtautahi | Christchurch, Aotearoa | New Zealand

  • Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

Join a collaborative, values-driven Digital Services team where you’ll help design, build, and maintain one of UC’s key mobile software solutions that support teaching, learning, research and operations at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury (UC). Your new team-mates are experienced and have worked on a variety of high-profile local and international projects.

Our projects have a focus on improving the UC experience for both students and staff. You will participate in detailed design sessions and build innovative software that complies with coding standards. We see code quality as everyone’s concern, so you will be comfortable developing high-quality code, and test code as well as feature code.

This is a hands-on role where you will build your skills and capability through both formal and informal learning, supported by experienced technical leaders. This role is based on-campus therefore cannot be done remotely.

Mōu | Who You Are

You will have at least at least 18 months commercial software development experience or postgraduate study in a relevant discipline and hold a relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering). As our team works in an agile manner, it’s important that you are adaptable, enjoying working in a collaborative environment, have an eye for detail, and can communicate effectively.

As an Associate Software Developer at UC can expect to use a variety of languages, frameworks and tools throughout their career.Experience with several of the following would be an advantage:

  • Web or mobile development experience with React and/or React Native
  • Front-end web application development with React and Typescript
  • Back-end application/web service development with NodeJS including API design
  • Microservice development, and asynchronous event-based programming
  • Source control with Git, and CI/CD tools and techniques, as well as unit and automated testing
  • Domain Driven Design
  • DevOps & Site Reliability Engineering
  • Integration with internal and external systems.
