Associate Vice Chancellor For Development

Primary Purpose of the Organization

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement and a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) will manage the day-to-day activities of leadership and major gifts fundraising programs, campaign planning, annual giving, and corporate and foundation relations. The AVC is responsible for advising the Vice Chancellor in formulating policies, procedures and programs relative to managing a comprehensive, strategic and efficient Advancement operation.

The position requires an excellent and inspiring manager and a strategic, creative, and collaborative colleague. The Senior Associate Vice Chancellor will provide executive leadership and strategic direction to fundraising programs across the division, including Major Gifts, College, School, and Unit fundraising, Foundation Relations, and Annual Giving fundraising programs. Previous success soliciting and closing six-figure gifts is required.

Primary Purpose of the Position

Responsibilities include oversight and collaborative supervision of within Development including, portfolio reviews, assignments, planned and principal gift prospect assignments. Ensures that fundraising managers are effective and maximizing resources to mobilize a talented staff in engaging an extraordinarily loyal and diverse group of alumni, parents, and friends. Ensures that all operational and business models are best in practice and align with the overall mission of Fayetteville State University.

The AVC will develop and monitor measurable goals for all advancement initiatives and programs to ensure that objectives are met. Works closely with FSU faculty and administrators to develop and implement fundraising strategies in order to meet established goals and objectives.

The AVC will represent the Vice Chancellor at meetings as requested and carry out other duties that maybe assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

On behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the AVC serves as a lead and collaborator on division-wide meetings and represents University Advancement in university meetings including, Chancellor and Provost meetings, university development strategy, and external university meetings, as requested.

In addition to the administrative and operational duties assigned, the AVC will manage a portfolio of major and principal donor prospects.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree, plus three to five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in all aspects of a mature development program or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

A proven record in fundraising, experience in leading an integrated staff and developing strategic priorities, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and creative leadership are necessary.

Exceptional interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with academic leaders, faculty, staff, donors, civic leaders, and volunteers to produce impressive philanthropic outcomes for the institution. The AVC is an active and visible member in the FSU community. High professional and ethical standards, integrity, initiative, creativity, and energy. Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • University campaign experience in a leadership role is preferred.
  • A master's degree is preferred.
