Associate Vice President for Compliance and Ethics and Chief Compliance Officer
Georgetown University invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Associate Vice President for Compliance and Ethics and Chief Compliance Officer.
Georgetown University “Georgetown” is one of the world’s leading academic and research institutions, offering a unique educational experience that prepares the next generation of global citizens to lead and make a difference in the world. The Georgetown community is comprised of exceptional students, faculty, alumni and professionals dedicated to real-world applications of research, scholarship, faith and service. Established in 1789, Georgetown is the nation’s oldest Catholic and Jesuit university. Drawing upon the 450-year-old legacy of Jesuit education, the University provides students with a world-class learning experience focused on educating the whole person through exposure to different faiths, cultures and beliefs.
Georgetown’s Office of Compliance and Ethics “OCE” coordinates and manages the Institutional Compliance and Ethics Program by emphasizing essential compliance program functions in a way that is tailored to Georgetown’s unique culture, organizational structure, and characteristics. The OCE oversees the University’s Code of Ethical Conduct, operates the Compliance Helpline (Georgetown’s reporting hotline), manages the Protection of Minors Policy, is a key contributor to the University’s enterprise risk management (ERM) system, and provides leadership, advice and assistance on a range of matters.
The University seeks an experienced, strategic leader to serve as Associate Vice President for Compliance and Ethics and Chief Compliance Officer “AVP”. This executive will strengthen Georgetown’s culture of ethical conduct and institutional accountability by providing strategic leadership and coordinated oversight of compliance activities—covering internal policies and external requirements imposed by law, regulation, contracts, and grants. Reporting to the Vice President & General Counsel and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, the Associate Vice President leads the OCE and partners closely with compliance leaders across the University. In this capacity, the AVP serves as a central integrator of compliance efforts, ensuring alignment, visibility, and consistency in meeting obligations and addressing issues. The AVP will maintain an effective, enterprise-wide compliance program characterized by clear policies, efficient processes, strong monitoring, and proactive risk management—while championing a University-wide culture of ethics and compliance that fosters shared accountability and reinforces Georgetown’s mission and values.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic and collaborative leader; hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least ten years of progressively responsible experience in legal, compliance, and/or audit roles (JD preferred); and demonstrate success in building effective compliance programs and an exceptional ability to foster trust and collaboration across a complex, fast-paced environment.
Georgetown has retained Korn Ferry, a global organizational consulting firm, to assist with the search. The search is being led by Victoria Antolini and Lila Wojnarowicz. All inquiries, nominations and expressions of interest should be submitted in confidence to Georgetown. Applications should include a detailed curriculum vitae and a letter of interest. The search will remain open until the role is successfully filled. To ensure full consideration, inquiries, nominations, and applications should be submitted online, in confidence, to the linked Georgetown Career Opportunity.
