Summary of Position

Job Summary

Red Rocks Community College invites applications for the position of Associate Vice President of Administrative Services (AVPAS). This leadership role serves as the principal deputy to the Vice President of Administrative Services and provides strategic direction and operational oversight across a range of non-academic support functions. The AVPAS manages the College's day-to-day financial operations, including general accounting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, purchasing, fixed assets, receiving, fleet services, and risk management. The role also leads contract administration efforts, ensuring institutional agreements are cost-effective, timely, and protective of the College's interests. Additionally, the AVPAS oversees auxiliary services such as food service, childcare, and bookstore operations, ensuring that these services operate efficiently, align with institutional goals, and deliver high-quality experiences for the campus community.

The AVPAS supports the development and implementation of financial strategies, ensures compliance with applicable regulations, and contributes to both short- and long-term planning. The position supervises the Controller and other financial staff, provides training and support to internal stakeholders, and works closely with legal, procurement, and department leadership to review and execute contracts. In the absence of the Vice President, the AVPAS assumes leadership responsibility for administrative services and plays a critical role in driving operational excellence, fiscal accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the division.

The ideal candidate brings a well-rounded background in financial strategy, operations, and compliance, and is at ease with the following:

  • Strategic Financial Leadership: Provides oversight of complex financial systems with a focus on long-term planning, fiscal accountability, and compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Operational Management & Team Leadership: Leads cross-functional teams with clarity and purpose, fosters collaboration across departments, and drives continuous improvement in financial and administrative processes.
  • Data-Informed Decision Making: Uses financial data, reporting tools, and analytics to guide strategic planning, evaluate performance, and inform resource allocation, while maintaining a strong focus on customer service and institutional integrity.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrates expertise in institutional financial management, including strategic planning, regulatory compliance, risk management, and financial analysis.
  • Applies advanced knowledge of financial systems, data tools, and accounting software to perform tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Communicates complex financial information clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally, across diverse audiences.
  • Builds respectful, professional relationships and interacts effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and under varying circumstances.
  • Leads and embeds a culture of high-quality, responsive service within all programs overseen. Anticipates stakeholder needs, resolves issues proactively, and ensures consistently excellent support experiences.
  • Fosters a collaborative environment, supports shared goals, and promotes trust and mutual respect within and across teams.
  • Analyzes financial and operational issues using data-driven reasoning to develop practical, informed solutions.
  • Organizes work strategically, prioritizes effectively, monitors progress, and evaluates outcomes to improve performance.
  • Navigates and resolves conflicts constructively to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Upholds the highest ethical standards, ensuring accountability, transparency, and trust in all professional interactions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Six (6) years of progressively responsible management and supervisory experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders (please include relevant examples in your cover letter).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced skills in Excel, Word, and related applications.
  • Proven ability to interpret, analyze, and present complex budgetary and financial data clearly and accurately.

Physical & Cognitive Demands

The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.

  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Starting Salary

Starting salary range for this position is $130,984 - $144,083 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
