Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The UNCW Department of Athletics sponsors 19 varsity sports and competes in the NCAA Division I as a member of the Coastal Athletic Association. UNCW Athletics mission is to enrich the University through a commitment to developing leadership qualities among its student-athletes by providing opportunities which support and promote academic excellence, community engagement and competitive success.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position:

The Compliance Specialist reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and assists in ensuring that all Athletics day-to-day operations are in compliance with NCAA rules and regulations. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Daily interaction with student-athletes, coaches, and staff to monitor CARA activities and reporting.
  • Conduct DI initial eligibility evaluations and monitor DI amateurism certification.
  • Monitor on-campus visits and issue student host allowance.
  • Provide DI and conference rule interpretations and create educational materials for coaches meetings.
  • Assist with data collection, data entry, and NCAA reporting, including self-reports.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure compliance with institutional and NCAA policies (admissions, housing, financial aid, international programs, etc.).
  • Monitor work of interns, student workers, and volunteers as needed.
  • Adhere to NCAA, CAA, institutional, state, and federal regulations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • A master's degree in sports management, higher education administration, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in DI compliance or DI academic advising.
  • Experience using NCAA Apps and Teamworks compliance software.
  • Familiarity with university academic policies and Banner.
  • Experience conducting internal audits or self-assessments related to NCAA compliance.

FTE: 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week)

Work Hours: 8am - 5pm with occasional evenings
