Athletics Mental Health Case Manager

Position Summary/Description

The Athletics Mental Health Case Manager position is responsible for coordinating comprehensive mental health care for UNC-CH Student-Athletes through triage, evaluation, treatment planning, consultation, and referral procedures to support access to care, wraparound services, and consistent communication within an integrated care model. This individual will develop relationships within the athletic department, the university, and the community to effectively support student-athletes. There is potential for a licensed provider to carry a small clinical caseload. This individual will work within an integrated healthcare model as part of the Sports Medicine staff. The Athletics Mental Health Case Manager must operate in a highly ethical manner and maintain confidential record-keeping systems in keeping with North Carolina State Law governing the delivery of psychological services

Education and Experience

  • Masters in Social Work or Counseling.
  • Experience providing case management services in a mental health clinic.
  • Experience in collegiate settings.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a variety of student populations from different backgrounds.
  • Experience and/or understanding of athletic culture.

Essential Skills

  • Licensed or license-eligible in the State of North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor
  • Experience providing case management, crisis intervention, brief assessment/triage, and care coordination.
  • Ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team of mental health and sports medicine providers.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively, respectfully, and appropriately with varied populations in the Department, the University, and the community.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with colleagues, clients, faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Excellent written and electronic communication.
  • Able to efficiently and effectively maintain documentation and record-keeping utilizing Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks in a high-stress environment.
  • Able to accurately interpret and adhere to NCAA and ACC Conference Rules, UNC Academic Standards, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.
  • Able to efficiently operate a personal computer using Microsoft Office Suite and have experience with EMR systems.
  • Able to complete educational, NCAA, and criminal background checks, which will be required of the successful applicant.
