Supervision Received: The Audio-Visual Technician reports to the Executive Director, Office of Information and Instructional Technology / Media Services

Salary: $49,000 to $54,000 (salary commensurate with education and experience)
General Statement of Duties:
The Audio-Visual Technician is responsible for providing audio-visual (AV) services by fulfilling Media Services requests for academic classes, student programs and event management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but not limited to:
Essential Functions:
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for classroom and meeting space AV systems
- Support AV needs for major campus events (e.g., Alumni Weekend, Family Weekend, Convocation, Commencement, Board of Trustees meetings)
- Works closely with the Audio-Visual Coordinator in planning daily events and service calls.
- Install software and firmware updates on classroom computers, control systems, and laptops
- Track and maintain inventory of media equipment and supplies
- Log equipment updates, relocations, and inventory changes
- Provide technical support for web conferencing platforms
- Complete special projects and assignments as needed
- Deliver high-quality customer service to faculty, staff, students, and guests

Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience

- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience supporting AV systems and media technology
- Proficiency with both Windows and macOS platforms, including presentation and productivity software
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Technical expertise
- AV systems: signal flow, control systems (Crestron, Extron), DSPs, switchers
- Audio engineering: microphones, gain structure, feedback control, live mixing
- Projector setup: focusing, color correction, keystone adjustments
- Web conferencing: Zoom, Microsoft Teams--setup, integration, troubleshooting
- Preventive maintenance: cleaning, firmware updates, lifecycle tracking
IT and Systems Integration
- Operating systems: Windows, macOS, iOS, Android
- Networking basics: IP addressing, VLANs, AV-over-IP protocols
- Office Suite applications and their use in the classroom
- Security awareness: data privacy, secure AV setups, IT policy compliance
Communication and Collaboration
- User training and support for diverse audiences
- Technical documentation and SOP creation
- Team coordination with IT, Facilities, and Events
- Empathetic, responsive customer service
Strategic and Operational Awareness
- Inventory management and vendor coordination
- Event logistics and AV planning
- Mission alignment with Westfield State's academic and community goals

- Physical dexterity: climbing ladders, lifting to 50 lbs., safely maneuvering equipment
Work Schedule
- Regular hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- Flexibility required for evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Communication Arts, Educational Technology, Computer Science, or related field

Salary:
Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies. State job specifications may be found on the Department of Higher Education's webpage.
