Authorization Coordinator - ACC - Ambulatory Admin - FT Days
Incumbent performs all tasks necessary to register patients, obtain necessary authorizations, verify the patient has a source of funding to cover services, and schedule patients for surgery. Responds to patient inquiries and resolves any identified issues.
Required Qualifications: Previous experience with computer registration and registration scheduling system; Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties; Must demonstrate general understanding of medical terminology; Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job; Must be able to travel to off site physician practices; Minimum one (1) year recent experience (within past two (2) years) registering patients in a hospital or clinic, working as a Medical Assistant, or working in medical billing; General knowledge of ICD9 and CPT codes; Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Demonstrated experience using MS Office; Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings; Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload; Ability to interpret and understand various medical insurance plans and make accurate determinations regarding coverage; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms; Familiarity of Joint Commission standards; Experience with Epic; Demonstrated experience with authorization process and surgical scheduling; Bilingual in English and Spanish.
