Automotive Technology Instructor Full-time
This position is a full-time tenure track, 10-month classroom teaching assignment in the Aerospace, Industrial Arts, and Applied Technologies Division. The current teaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester. Faculty are also responsible for 5 office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development and campus committees is expected. The teaching assignment may include courses offered in either onsite, online and/or hybrid format, evening and or Saturday classes.
Representative Duties
- Teach Automotive Technology courses in both lecture and laboratory settings using various teaching methods, demonstrations, and active learning strategies
- Maintain regular posted office hours that are accessible to students
- Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, and related instructional documentation
- Provide an environment conducive to effective learning and student success
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and industry partners
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
- Participate in faculty/division meetings, program review, curriculum planning and implementation, student learning outcomes assessment, and college governance activities
- Participate in professional development and continuing education activities to maintain instructional and industry currency
- Participate in advisory committee meetings and industry engagement activities
- Support student recruitment, outreach activities, guided tours, and community events
- Collaborate with adjunct faculty, instructional assistants, and division staff to support program operations
- Assist with maintaining lab safety standards, equipment needs, and instructional supply coordination
- Be available to teach day, evening, weekend, dual enrollment, off-site, or alternative modality courses as needed by the program
- Support student retention, workforce preparation, internships, apprenticeships, industry certification pathways, and employer partnerships
- Support program visibility through outreach projects, showcases, and community partnerships
- Travel between District locations as needed
- Perform other instructional-related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Any bachelor's degree or higher AND two years of experience OR any associate degree AND six years of experience OR equivalency. Antelope Valley College Equivalency: Equivalency Approved Expires 12/16/28. College work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to a Baccalaureate degree and two years of related occupational experience in the discipline; or college work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to an associate degree plus six years of occupational experience related to the discipline OR Eight years of experience in the automotive service occupation, two years of which must have included assignment as a supervisor, instructor, trainer or owner of an automotive service shop. And a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students (tit. 5 § 53024.1).
