The new Bachelor of Science in Aviation Science Program at Texas A&M University-Victoria invites qualified applicants for the position of Aviation Program Coordinator and Professor or Associate Professor of Practice. The Aviation Science Program offers Professional Pilot and Aviation Management pathways. Flight training through a contracted provider will be conducted at the Victoria Regional Airport.
Victoria is a historic city of about 79,000 people in the Coastal Bend region of Texas. It is about two hours driving time from Houston, Corpus Christi, Austin, and San Antonio. The Victoria region offers great flying weather throughout the year, Class D airspace, a tower-controlled airport, and vast airspace for flight training.
The Aviation Program Coordinator reports to Dean of the College of Natural and Applied Science, working within the Department of Engineering and Aviation Sciences. The coordinator is responsible for planning and directing all aspects of the aviation program including curriculum development, Federal Aviation Administration regulatory compliance, flight operations, scheduling, and accreditation. The program coordinator has both administrative and instructional responsibilities, which may include classroom, flight, or ground school instruction. The proportions of each will be negotiated upon hire. The program coordinator carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the College’s policies and applicable laws.
This is a non-tenure-track, renewable, 12-month faculty appointment with the title Professor of Practice located in Victoria, Texas. Rank (e.g., Assistant, Associate, or Full) and compensation will be commensurate with experience. This position is full-time and eligible for benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement, disability, and tuition remission.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for directing all aspects of the Aviation Science degree program. They will serve as primary point of contact for Texas A&M University-Victoria’s aviation program. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Overseeing all operations of the aviation degree program including the flight training contractor.
- Teaching courses within the aviation program, including ground school and other subjects as appropriate. Teaching assignments will include face-to-face classes in Victoria, Texas.
- Planning and conducting activities that raise the profile of the A&M-Victoria Aviation Science Program within the community and industry.
- Actively participating in student recruitment and coordinating with the Division of Enrollment Management to develop recruiting material.
- Facilitating mentoring for aviation students with industry professionals and fostering graduate placement.
- Identifying resource requirements and managing Aviation Program budgets.
- Overseeing compliance with Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) requirements.
- Supervising and administering Aviation Program extra-curricular activities and engage with professional organizations, including the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA).
- Performing other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications
This individual will be employed by Texas A&M University-Victoria and will teach face-to-face classes within the academic programs of the University. Therefore, they will need to satisfy the expectations of SACSCOC and other relevant agencies in terms of academic credentials, as well as all other employment qualifications of the University. The successful candidate for this position should have the following qualifications:
- A master’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field
- Industry experience in the area of aviation and/or flight operations and aviation management (e.g., service as a commercial or military pilot)
- Federal Aviation Administration instrument and single-engine land or multi-engine land commercial pilot ratings
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of professional, community, and student populations
- Ability to plan and conduct activities that raise the profile of the A&M-Victoria engineering programs within the community and industry
- Demonstrated sensitivity to students from a wide range of academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds as well as students with disabilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a flight and/or ground school instructor
- Previous classroom teaching experience in a higher education setting
- Single-engine land and multi-engine land pilot ratings
- CFI/Instrument rating
