Position Summary

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at Winston-Salem State University is seeking a knowledgeable and service-oriented Banner Business System Analyst. OIT works to support and strengthen the academic, administrative, and associated research needs of all faculty, staff, and students at Winston-Salem State University through the provisioning, support, maintenance, availability, and outreach of Information Technology Services. This position serves as a member of the Banner Applications Solutions (BAS) programming team supporting the University’s ERP administrative application suite.

The Banner Business System Analyst serves as the functional subject matter expert for the University’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, Ellucian Banner (HR, Payroll, FLAC and Finance modules). This role works closely with the HR, FLAC, Payroll, and Finance business offices to support all regulatory, compliance, strategic, and enterprise initiatives. This role collaborates with a team of business analysts that serve as Banner functional subject matter experts focused on supporting strategic initiatives, enterprise projects/programs, and business enhancements.

Responsibilities of the Banner Business System Analyst include:

  • Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of the processes and designs of Ellucian Banner HR/Payroll module and related applications and interfaces such as PeopleAdmin, UNC-HR DataMart, UNC Shared Services Finance and Payroll operations, and UNC System Office Interfaces
  • Create and maintain documentation for analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation activities.
  • Coordinate the testing of code, applications, and systems per requirements and specifications using industry best practice and department standards.
  • Perform research of system and functional modifications to aid in developing technical solutions and investigating alternative methods for solving problems of varying complexities.
  • Develop reports using tools supported by the University such as WebFOCUS and Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Consult with clients, technicians, and other analysts to develop solutions to support business needs or and resolve technical problems.
  • Configure and Administer ancillary applications to support business needs
  • Provide testing and support of the applications and systems supporting Banner HR/Payroll modules as needed.
  • Serve as the first line contact for HR and Payroll technical support; troubleshoot and resolve issues with HR and Payroll systems.
  • Ensure HR and Payroll systems are up to date with the latest upgrades, configurations, CAB changes, etc.
  • Collaborate with other business analysts, functional users, IT Technical team members, or applicable vendors to seek proper technical solutions to maximize efficiency
  • Assist Business Analysts with completing the project and support activities within the unit.
  • Cross-train with Business Analysts to learn the business process and functional requirements of another functional area to perform activities as a backup analyst.
  • Serve as a resource on project teams to provide business process knowledge and documentation, application, and data support, and testing.

This position requires a full-time onsite presence for the first six (6) months to support onboarding, training, collaboration, and operational continuity. Following this period, the role will transition to a hybrid work schedule, typically consisting of two (2) remote days and three (3) onsite days per week, based on departmental needs. During peak operational periods (e.g., registration, system upgrades, or major project implementations), additional onsite presence may be required.

Appointment Type Permanent Full-Time

Normal Work Schedule Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm.

Department Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment, or equivalent combination of training and experience from appropriately accredited institutions.
  • Experience with Banner HR/Payroll module (or comparable ERP System)
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of Banner HR/Payroll experience (or comparable ERP System) in a business systems analyst role.
  • Demonstrated experience with project management, business process methodologies, data integration, or data extraction and reporting tools

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Experience with PeopleAdmin, BDM, Workflow, and UNC-HR Data Mart
  • Experience with collaboration tools, business analysis techniques, or online training technologies
  • Knowledge of one or more Ellucian Banner modules or applications
