BCRC Research Chair in Beef Cattle Economic Sustainability - Assistant or Associate Professor
Job Overview
The University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenured or probationary (tenure-track) position as the BCRC Research Chair in Beef Cattle Economic Sustainability at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The role involves research (55%), extension and sector engagement (25%), and teaching (20%).
Responsibilities
- Lead research on sources of variation in beef operation returns, risk management, and the value of emerging technologies and management innovations.
- Analyze risk mitigation strategies for adopters and non-adopters of practices related to productivity, profitability, and environmental sustainability, including costs of GHG emission regulations and benefits of EGS payments.
- Examine motivations for adopting management practices and develop financial incentive models for beef producers.
- Participate in knowledge transfer activities, train undergraduate and graduate students, and engage with Indigenous communities for food security strategies.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in animal science, agricultural economics, or related fields; academic qualifications for Assistant or Associate Professor rank; a proven track record in externally-funded research; experience in industry consultation; and ability to train students. Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is required.
The position is cross-appointed in the Department of Animal Science and the Department of Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics. It is funded by the Beef Cattle Research Council with matching funds, for a ten-year term starting January 1, 2026 or soon after.
