Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Belmont University Faculty Fellows Program is a two-year post-doctoral teaching and scholarly initiative designed to support outstanding individuals who have recently earned their terminal degree. The program provides a mentored, comprehensive teaching and research experience to help new faculty with limited teaching experience build professional portfolios grounded in pedagogical practices that promote hope, unity, and belonging in the classroom.
The Thomas F. Frist Jr. College of Medicine (FCoM) seeks a Faculty Fellow who is committed to developing innovative teaching and scholarship that advances Health Systems Science, supports the Belmont Collaborative for Health Systems Science, professional identity formation, and inclusive excellence within a Christ-centered, student-focused learning community.
The Thomas F. Frist Jr. College of Medicine (FCoM) seeks a Faculty Fellow who is passionate about teaching and inquiry in Health Systems Science and related disciplines. Preferred areas of specialty include, but are not limited to:
- Biostatistics and Quantitative Methods
- Epidemiology and Population Health
- Public Health and Social Determinants of Health
- Community Health and Health Equity
- Health Policy and Data Analytics
- Health Professions Education and Interprofessional Learning
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in research and a deep commitment to cultivating inclusive, student-centered learning environments that prepare future clinicians and scientists to advance community and population health.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Faculty Fellows will:
- Teach two to three courses per semester, under the guidance of a Faculty Mentor, within the assigned department or college.
- Develop and implement curriculum, including course design, assessment tools, classroom and/or laboratory instruction, and evaluation of student performance.
- Conduct an original research project and engage collaboratively in scholarly activity with the Faculty Mentor and, where appropriate, with Belmont students.
- Teach exclusively in-person on Belmont’s Nashville campus to foster meaningful engagement and belonging in the classroom community.
- Participate in professional development programming offered through the Office of the Provost and Teaching Center, including first- and second-year faculty sessions.
- Contribute as an active member of the assigned department, offering service, collaboration, and input that supports student success and the University’s mission.
- Adhere to all university and departmental policies and uphold Belmont’s Christ-centered mission to form diverse leaders of character and promote flourishing communities.
Fellows are appointed to a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure-track position (June 1–May 31), with university benefits, and are eligible for renewal for one additional year based on satisfactory performance and program needs. Fellows may also be awarded a Belmont Fellows Grant (BFG) annually to support research and scholarly engagement.

Program Intent and Environment
This fellowship is intentionally designed to bridge graduate research training (often from R1 institutions) and teaching-centered faculty roles within a university committed to liberal arts and professional education integration. Fellows will receive ongoing mentorship from a Belmont faculty member, participate in professional development programming, and gain valuable teaching and scholarship experience that will prepare them for future faculty appointments in higher education.

- Proficiency in educational technologies, including MS Office, Internet resources, and the university’s learning management system (e.g., Canvas) and BannerWeb.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to fostering a welcoming learning environment for all students.
- Willingness to collaborate across disciplines and participate in course design, interdisciplinary teaching, and community-engaged learning.
Required Education Terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., DrPH, M.D., D.O., or equivalent) in the teaching discipline or a related field, typically earned within the past three years.
Required Experience • Foundational teaching experience, which may include roles such as teaching assistant, instructor of record, or equivalent instructional responsibilities. • Evidence of scholarly engagement, such as publications, presentations, research projects, or other academic contributions.
The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
