Business and Benefits Analyst
About us:
The Business and Benefits Analyst role sits within the Transformation Office Directorate. The Transformation Office supports the senior leadership of the university in effective strategy execution, delivering a complex set of transformation initiatives and driving sustainable improvements to our core business.
As Business and Benefits Analyst, you will perform a range of activities which help ensure the operational effectiveness and excellence of the organisation through identifying, defining, and validating internal and external changes and to provide benefits realisation support across the transformation portfolio.
Our transformation portfolio includes a wide range of projects, and you will play a key role in solutions delivery by leading the gathering and documentation of requirements through to supporting activities towards service transition.
You will be responsible for improving, designing, and documenting data mapping, workflow and processes, and you will be responsible for making appropriate recommendations that will positively impact operational effectiveness, the design and implementation of systems, and will maximise value to service users. You will also help develop a benefits measurement system and tools.
This role requires strong analytical, communication, and technical skills in areas like SQL, data visualization tools, and other data analysis software.
About the role:
Requirements Definition & Management
- Organising and facilitating scoping and business priority setting for large or complex changes, engaging senior stakeholders and direction setters, and selecting the most appropriate means of representing business requirements in the context of a specific change initiative.
- Driving the requirements process and identifying the impact on business requirements of external factors.
Business Modelling
- Responsible for planning and co-ordinating business modelling activities and producing models in support of business strategy and across multiple business functions.
Business Process Improvement
- Capturing, measuring, and analysing business processes to identify waste & reduce defects, and supporting the identification, implementation, and control of alternative processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
Data Analysis
- Managing the investigation of data requirements, and co-ordinating the application of data analysis and data modelling techniques.
Benefits Analysis
- Develop, maintain and progressively enhance the benefits measurement system and tools used by the Transformation Office
- Analyse benefit data, highlighting any noteworthy trends and risks at the programme level for project, programme and senior sponsors.
- Assist Project and Programme Managers within the Transformation Office identify and optimise additional benefits and dis-benefits and assess the impact of changes from the benefits realisation perspective.
- Drive the tracking and reporting on the actual realisation of benefits
- Maintain focus on benefits from the early stages of project initiation to the point where the operations of the changed organisation, function or department fully realise them.
Organisation Design & Implementation
- Deliver innovative solutions that represent good value in line with the College strategies and architecture design.
- Conduct business impact assessments to identify how changes from the “as-is” processes, systems, and structures to the “to-be” processes, systems and structures impact specific services, processes, and stakeholders.
Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Establish effective relationships between stakeholders and managing and liaising with all stakeholders ensure effective planning, delivery, and communications.
You will contribute to successful project delivery by supporting:
- both waterfall & agile project delivery
- benefits definition and management
- business change planning & management
- implementation & configuration of solutions
- testing against defined requirements
The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.
This is a hybrid working role where the role holder will spend 3 days of their working week on campus and 2 days working remotely.
You will be offered a full-time, indefinite contract (35 hours per week).
About you:
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Educated to Degree Level standard or equivalent relevant experience
- Significant, demonstrable skills and experience of business analysis, with practical application in a complex multi-stakeholder environment.
- Demonstrable process reengineering experience, and experience of data analysis, modelling & capturing data requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to synthesise and interpret information, generate data-driven insights and communicate effectively to a variety of audiences.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, networking and influencing skills, with a high level of presentation skills and the ability to communicate confidently with colleagues of all levels.
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the benefits management process, tools and techniques. Including benefit realisation plans and reporting.
- Proficiency in excel, data analysis techniques, database query languages like SQL, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
Desirable criteria
- A recognized project management e.g., Prince2 Agile
- Experience of process review and improvement methods e.g., Lean Six Sigma.
- Knowledge and understanding of the UK Higher Education sector.
