Are you passionate about creating spaces that bring a university’s mission to life? Join our team as a Campus Planner at UW-Madison and play a pivotal role in guiding the physical development of one of the nation’s leading research institutions.
As a Campus Planner you will provide expertise in project planning, zoning requirements, land use processes, and modification of physical environments associated with the UW-Madison institution for Campus Planning and Landscape Architecture (CPLA) in the Division of Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
CPLA leads the development and implementation of the Campus Master Plan, School/College/Division unit Facilities Master Plans and individual project Pre-Design initiatives. CPLA guides campus development in a way that gives physical form to the University’s mission, vision, and programs though the effective use of human, environmental, and financial resources. The Campus Planner will assist in a broad array of projects focused around both campus and project planning. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of CPLA.
Planning specific support will require assistance with unit master plans, capital project support including facilities programing, proposed facilities massing and blocking diagrams, adjacency and space layouts, development of best practices, as well as leading the pre-design project process. Additional campus specific support will require the coordination and development of site based policies and strategies, supporting CPLA initiatives. Duties and responsibilities will include coordinated team efforts with staff in the offices of Physical Plant, Transportation Services, Space Management, Real Estate Development & Administration, and Strategic & Capital Project Delivery.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Remote work requires an approved remote work arrangement (RWA). Per University policy, transportation between home and assigned work location is not payable/reimbursable and will be at the expense of the employee.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Develops planning initiatives through engagement process assistance, conceptual alternative development, and graphic analysis and presentation
- Assists with developing operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, best practices, and unit objectives
- Reviews, evaluates, approves, and provides recommendations for facility improvements, space assignments, and proposals utilizing best practices and established policies and procedures
- Schedules logistics and secures resources to resolve facility issues, recommending alternatives where necessary
- Assists with the development, execution, and utilization of strategic planning analysis to determine long term needs and develop sustainable solutions
- Serves as the unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information to ensure timely and safe transitioning of major construction or remodeling projects
- Manages and directs operational functions and planning of one or multiple facilities or projects to foster innovative solutions
- Evaluates and develops individual project programming goals of the stakeholder and campus
Department:
Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M), Department of Campus Planning and Landscape Architecture (CPLA)
The Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of the UW-Madison campus in support of the university's education, research, and outreach activities. FP&M works behind the scenes to coordinate campus planning, manage design and construction, maintain and operate buildings and grounds, supply utility services, ensure health and safety, and provide parking and transportation services.
Compensation:
The starting salary for the position is $85,000 (but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications).

Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a planning, landscape design/architecture, urban design, architecture, architectural engineering, or related field preferred
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including technical writing, site planning, diagramming, and report compilation
- Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
- Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Sketchup, and Adobe Suite
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills to resolve complex problems
- Commitment to provide high quality customer service
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in planning and programming of higher education facilities
- Experience with ESRI ArcGIS
- Licensed Architect with State of Wisconsin; fulfills all requirement as an Architect as outlined by the Sate of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services
Education:
- Required: Bachelor's Degree with a focus in Planning, Landscape Design/Architecture, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Urban Design, or other related facilities planning and design fields
