Position Summary
HOURS: Every other (E/O) Saturday 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Sunday 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (20 hours E/O week).
DESCRIPTION:
The Campus Safety Dispatcher is responsible for dispatching Campus Police Officers, Safety Services Officers, and Student Security Officers to routine and emergency calls for service via clear and concise two-way radio communication; receiving routine and emergency telephone calls and messages from the campus community in an accurate, confident and professional manner. The Dispatcher monitors and operates the college video surveillance system, fire/panic alarms, and other safety systems and keeps accurate dispatch call logs and records by using the Computer Aided Dispatch software. The Dispatcher assists with fleet vehicle reservations, ensures contractors follow check-in procedures and performs other tasks that support the Campus Safety Department and Campus Operations Division.
OUTCOME:
Operation of an efficient, professional and customer service-oriented Dispatch and Campus Information Center for York College.
Essential Functions
- Dispatch campus officers to routine and emergency calls for service via two-way radio communications and interact with York County 911 when necessary 25%
- Receive routine and emergency College and Campus Safety telephone calls for service in an accurate, confident and professional manner and transfer all incoming telephone calls to the appropriate department in a pleasant, friendly and courteous manner 20%
- Keep accurate dispatch call logs and records using the ARMS/ CAD system 15%
- Monitor college video surveillance system and other alarm systems 10%
- Utilize the campus parking database, call recording and playback systems 5%
- Monitor the Spartan Shield App and respond to requests for assistance through the App 5%
- Assist with fleet vehicle reservations, issue fleet keys and make sure proper paperwork is assigned and turned back in 5%
- Assist contractors with the college check in procedures, issue keys and ensure they are returned to the CIC 5 %
- Assist and direct visitors at the CIC 3%
- Send emergency alerts and Spartan Shield push notifications when necessary 2%
- Other tasks as assigned to support the Department of Campus Safety and the Campus Operations Division. 5%
Experience and Education Required
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- One year of experience in telecommunications, two-way radio communications, public safety, emergency services or law enforcement required
- Current NAED Emergency Telecommunicator or similarly recognized certification preferred
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Must pass a comprehensive background investigation
- Must be able to handle confidential and protected data
- Must become familiar with Campus Safety operations, policies, procedures and campus locations
- Must be able to obtain NAED Emergency Telecommunicator Instructor Certification within 90 days of hire or appointment
- Ability to operate radio equipment, automatic switchboard, telephones, computers, CCTV cameras, call recording and other monitoring equipment required in a modern emergency communications center
- Ability to work well with others and interact tactfully with other people; good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure and remain calm during high stress and emergency situations
- Ability to type, speak clearly and professionally, write legibly and spell correctly
- Ability to instruct others on the use and operation of all Dispatch and CIC equipment
- Ability to obtain JNET and C.L.E.A.N. access/certification
