SUMMARY
York County Community College (YCCC), a dynamic institution serving York County for over 30 years, is seeking a dependable and service-oriented individual to serve as a Campus Safety Officer (Contract/Per Diem) on our Wells and Sanford Campuses.
The Campus Safety Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, employees, and visitors. This position supports campus safety through visible presence, monitoring facilities and grounds, responding to incidents, and assisting with emergency preparedness efforts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Visitor Management & Access Control. Greet and assist students, staff, and visitors in a professional and welcoming manner while maintaining appropriate security protocols. Monitor and manage entry points, verify credentials as needed, and control access to restricted areas.
Campus Monitoring & Patrol. Conduct routine monitoring of campus facilities, parking areas, and grounds to promote safety and deter suspicious activity. Identify and report safety hazards or security concerns.
Safety, Security Monitoring & Incident Response. Respond promptly to safety concerns, disturbances, alarms, or emergencies. Observe activity, address or escalate suspicious behavior, and document incidents accurately in accordance with campus protocols using designated reporting systems. Complete other delegated assignments regarding equipment/systems safety checks and readiness.
Lost & Found Management. Maintain lost and found procedures, including logging and securing items and assisting individuals in retrieving property.
Emergency Preparedness & Safety Drills. Assist in planning and/or executing campus safety drills such as fire drills, lockdowns, and evacuations. Support emergency response efforts as directed.
Shuttle Operations (As Needed). Operate campus shuttle in a safe and responsible manner, transporting students and staff to approved locations as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience in law enforcement / security setting / first responder
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree
- 2 years of higher education experience
- Relevant military experience
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive in emergencies or high-pressure situations.
- Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and ethical conduct.
- Working knowledge of safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and incident documentation practices.
- Ability to observe, assess, and respond appropriately to potential safety risks.
- Proficiency in basic computer systems and reporting software.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with campus departments and external agencies.
- Strong customer-service orientation with a commitment to maintaining a welcoming campus environment.
- Ability to give and follow clear directions.
- Physical ability to patrol campus buildings and grounds.
- Valid driver's license (if shuttle operation is required).
