Campus Safety Programs Coordinator
Position Summary:
The Campus Safety Programs Coordinator is responsible for developing and overseeing safety programs within the College to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. This role will be vital in risk assessment, accident prevention, and maintaining a safe workplace environment. The Campus Safety Programs Coordinator will report to the Vice President for the Student Experience.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the College's workplace safety programs including Occupational health and Safety Programs, Campus Emergency Action and Fire Prevention Plan, Lockout/Tagout and Electrical Safety Program, Air Program and Restricted Emissions Status (RES), Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure Plan, Hazardous, Universal and Biological Waste Management, and other programs as warranted.
- Serve as a first point of contact for safety concerns and inquiries, assist the Campus community in understanding policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Provide safety training to employees and students; maintain training documentation and records including inspection records, monitoring data, training records, safety data sheets (SDS), waste disposal records, Source Registration and Emissions Statements.
- Collaborate with the Office of Human Resources as it pertains to OHSA compliance and training initiatives, assist with corrective action strategies and periodic status reports to leadership.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, coordinate maintenance and repair safety devices such as; fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and personal protective equipment to ensure proper supply and working conditions.
- Assist in the investigation of incidents/accidents. Analyze incident/accident reports for trends. Make recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions.
- Chair the College Safety Committee; assist committee with problem identification and remediation, policy development, procedures, committee charges, and compliance issues.
- Stay up to date on local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Promote a safety culture within the College.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and DSHS regulations and reporting.
- Experience in hazard identification and risk assessment.
- Ability to conduct effective training sessions.
- Familiarity with emergency response protocols and procedures.
- Experience in regulatory compliance and reporting.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to work independently and part of a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft applications.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, safety or relevant area of study or relevant job experience.
- Certification from a recognized safety program (e.g., CSP, CHST) preferred.
- Certifications in first aid and CPR preferred.
