Cancer Pain Specialist

Cancer Pain Specialist

The Division of Pain Medicine, within the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University, is seeking an outstanding Cancer Pain Specialist to join our expanding Pain Service Line with an appointment in the Clinician Educator Line.

The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

The Cancer Pain Specialist will serve as a faculty lead in Cancer Pain Medicine, expanding access to specialized oncologic pain care through both outpatient visits and procedures as well as inpatient consults. While the role primarily focuses on outpatient care, it also enhances inpatient consult capacity to ensure timely access to treatment. This position strengthens collaboration across oncology, palliative care, and interventional pain services, reducing treatment delays and advancing Stanford’s leadership in integrated, patient-centered, and innovative cancer pain management.

As demand for cancer care grows, this role will help address a critical gap, while reinforcing Stanford’s national reputation for excellence in multidisciplinary cancer pain management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert consultation and treatment for patients with cancer-related pain in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Collaborate with oncology, palliative care, and interventional pain colleagues to ensure seamless, comprehensive care.
  • Perform advanced outpatient pain procedures to enhance patient outcomes and reduce care delays.
  • Contribute to clinical education of fellows, residents, and medical students in cancer pain management.
  • Participate in clinical or translational research initiatives related to oncologic pain.

Qualifications

  • MD or equivalent, with fellowship training in Pain Medicine.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine (or relevant specialty).
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical care of complex pain patients, with experience in oncology or palliative settings preferred.
  • Strong teaching and mentoring skills.
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary and patient-centered care.

Additional Opportunities

  • Leadership: Serve as faculty lead in the development of a Cancer Pain subspecialty program within the Division of Pain Medicine.
  • Professional Growth: Opportunities for advancement in academic rank and leadership within the Division and Department.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Stanford Cancer Institute, palliative care, and interventional services to drive innovation.

Stanford is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Stanford welcomes applications from all who would bring additional dimensions to the University’s research, teaching and clinical missions.

To apply, submit CV and a brief cover letter. For questions, please contact Ranjini Deo at rreddy1@stanford.edu.

The expected base pay range for this position is:

  • Clinical Assistant Professor: $432,000–442,000
  • Clinical Associate Professor: $455,000–$465,000
  • Clinical Professor: $478,000–$499,000

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
