Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

UC’s Centre for Employability & Career Development is seeking a career development practitioner with a strong interest in how employability learning can be embedded across a university curriculum. Working within a team that brings together Career Development and Work-Integrated Learning expertise, this role is focussed on partnering with academic staff to make career development learning (CDL) a deliberate and scaffolded part of the student degree experience, reaching students at a scale that direct services alone cannot achieve.

The role also includes career consultation, workshop delivery, and understanding industry trends. These remain valued parts of the work and inform the design and curriculum partnership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with academic staff across faculties to identify and develop CDL and WIL opportunities within degree programmes.
  • Design and develop scalable, discipline-contextualised career learning materials and activities.
  • Deliver career and employability workshops and teaching sessions for students and staff.
  • Provide professional development for staff on CDL principles and curriculum integration.
  • Deliver career consultations for students and recent graduates, with attention to equity and priority cohorts.
  • Understand industry trends to inform curriculum relevance and generate WIL opportunities.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of CDL impact through data collection and reporting.

Mōu | Who You Are

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • At least 4 years’ experience in career development learning or a closely related field.
  • Knowledge of CDL and employability research and its practical application.
  • Experience collaborating with colleagues outside career development on programme or resource design.
  • Effective facilitation and communication across varied audiences.
  • Understanding of the Aotearoa New Zealand graduate employment context.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Graduate Diploma (NZQA Level 7).
  • Familiarity with curriculum design or WIL models is an advantage, as is a teaching qualification.
  • Competency in te reo Māori and knowledge of Pacific community contexts are welcome.
