Overview
The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) at Edith Cowan University is one of the world’s leading Performing Arts academies and this is an exciting time for the school as it prepares to move into the ECU City Campus. In 2026, WAAPA will start a new VET stream in “Music Production” within the CUA50820 Diploma of Music. This course is designed to adapt to the evolving needs of the music industry, catering to students fascinated by the prospect of creating music using digital tools. This includes production techniques (recording, sampling, beat-making, editing, mixing, mastering), and creating original music using digital tools (including digital audio workstations and notation software).
Role
WAAPA is seeking multi-skilled and experienced practitioners with the capacity to lead, teach, and manage multiple specialised units within this new stream and invites expressions of interests from suitably qualified and experienced individuals. Candidates should be established artists with demonstrable skills in music production and creation, as well as the qualifications and experience to work successfully in a VET (Vocational, Education and Training) learning environment. Fluency in multiple music genres (including contemporary popular music) is critical, along with the ability to attract and inspire students.
SELECTION CRITERIA
QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE
- Certificate IV in workplace training and assessment.
- Evidence of an established professional profile in music production, songwriting, and creating original music.
TEACHING SKILLS
- Ability to teach creating/composing original music and/or songs in a range of musical genres and styles.
- Ability to teach music production techniques (including recording, mixing, editing, mastering as well as sampling, mixing, and beat-making).
- Fluency with a range of music software (including recording and editing suites, digital audio workstations, and music notation programs).
- The ability to attract and inspire students.
- A track record of successful tertiary teaching. (Desirable)
- Experience in VET curriculum design. (Desirable)
ADMINISTRATION SKILLS
- High level of administrative and organisation skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
